Even though
trout plants have been happening at Freshwater for decades, the practice will be halted due to the need of
CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) and Environmental Impact Reports (
EIR) after the Center for Biological Diversity and the Pacific River Council sued the Department of Fish and Games. Just Ridiculous. This is obscene
frivolous lawsuits that affect us i
nnocent bystanders. That is all I have to say about this.

The predatory orgs are a major problem, that is going have to be fixed.
First, there is no money in this. Second, while I like to fish there and want plants to continue it would be nice if you could present their argument, it might make sense.
They're saying that planted trout screw up the native trout. I forget the exact reasons cited except one reason was cross breeding, iirc. Seems to me the planting program has worked fine.
Watch out for the predatory orgs. Watch out for goblins too!
This is just one more left
wing radical move to stop
activity on the North Coast.
Your unions support these kind
of people...

I didn'y know there was native trout in freshwater lagoon? My grandmather lived at big lagoon and I have fished at freshwater since I was a child (mid '60's) and it was always planted trout. And some planted bass that was snuck in.
Fred, is there a reference we can look at for some real information?
I can't remember where the heck I read about this but it was in the last two or three weeks. I'll see if I can find something.
Here's an article from the SF Chronicle that explains the situation. I forgot about one thing. They want the trout to stop eating pollywogs and frogs.
There's also a list of affected lakes:

Uh, I put the link with the story on my post. Check it out.

Mike: Thanks for the information. Answers alot of questions.
There goes the fun the other Richard. I went fishing at Freshwater lagoon on my 50th Birthday Nov 28th and caught a
24 1/2 inch 4.6 lbs cutthroat trout. Yes you all, this is true for a Federal Fish and Game Warden who was checking licenses measured it, weighed it and even took a picture of it with his cell phone which he then e-mailed to more Fish and Game wardens in the area. He informed me that the fish was about 7 to 9 yrs old and was one of the biggest and prettiest fish he had ever seen out of that lagoon. Another fisherman came by(who was visiting from the Sierra foothills for Thanksgiving) and asked if he could take a picture of me and the fish for he also had never seen a fish like that from a coastal lagoon. Of course I agreed and there I was the happiest man in the world holding this fish with the biggest smile for all to see.
I will never forget that day, the fish, the people, the lagoon, memories that will last me a life time..
For all who would like to see, just stop by Angelo’s Pizza in Eureka, look above the steelhead sign (by the beer taps) and gaze at what fishing and fun is all about at Freshwater Lagoon....
All for the sake of putting money in their pocket these evil groups will screw all of us. No better than baykeeper in my book. These creeps have shut out stocking all our alpine lakes too. THey say it kills frogs. Just a damned lie. Richard these creeps are the progs you vote for and continue to support at HCDCC
Sorry. Kind of embarrassing to see I posted a link to the same story Rich already linked to.
Mostranski, did you release the fish or eat it?
Mostranski,
That trout is larger than the largemouth I caught there about 15 years ago. On the south end, east side, by the Freshwater lagoon Yacht Club I landed a 22 inch, 4.2 pound largemouth. Before they killed off the lagoon that was the spot for bass. We used to catch them all day on top water spinners and buzz baits. Salamanders and frogs worked well too in spring.
To Anon 11:13pm...Amen to that..they think by hanging together with the unions to get more money and benefits that everything will be great..but the HCDCC and the rest of the Dems hang all this other crap on us...pretty soon they will shut down the entire county..you can
blame Barney Frank and his
buddies for what happened to
Fannie & Feddie which led to
our housing problem and the
closing of Evergreen..THANK
YOU DEMS...
WAKE UP PEOPLE
this a relation rich? if so he going to be ok?
The Eureka Police Department is investigating an attempted murder that took place this morning.
EPD officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of 5th Street for a report of an assault, according to a news release. Upon arrival, officers found Eureka resident Ward Marks, 44, with serious injuries. Marks was transported to St. Joseph hospital where he remains in fair condition. EPD, which is treating the incident as an attempted murder, reported that a weapon was used during the incident but would not reveal what that weapon is.
Other Richard-Wow! That is a great fish tale! A whooper! Happy belated B-Day too.
11:13pm Conspiracy theory? C'mon! I am the one complaining here. And no, I do not like Barney Frank and think he should have been held accountable for his soliciting the Genral Public in to buying bad stocks and then saying later he did not.
I am a Democrat, but I do not follow party lines all the time. Matter of fact, it has caused problems with my fellow Dems at times. I am a pro-worker, pro growth progressive who is a "responsible environmentalist." Prove your cause I am behind you all the way. If you are just impeding growth with frivilous roadblocks or lawsuits, I will not support your cause.
Ward Marks is no relation. Let us hope and pray he will be all right. Lots of crazy shootings lately.
Always lots of shady looking folks hanging out around the Red Lion bar and in the alley behind Pro Sport Center.
To quote a friend of mine, who would probably rather remain un-named, “They aught to put the Fish and Game in charge of ticks and fleas, they've been able to get rid of everything else"
