Easy Voter Guide and other political stuff.

Libertarian's the elite? Have you all checked out the Political Parties in the Easy Voter Guide? Fred must have wrote the description for the Libertarian Party: "The Libertarian Party is your BEST choice for reasonable government. If you're socially tolerant and fiscally responsible, you're a Libertarian!" Kinda grandiose, dontcha think?

The Democratic debates Election Center 2008 - CNN.com are now just getting nasty and bitter. Hillary and Barack should take the high road. John Edwards was the forgotten candidate in this debate. He needs to do something radical to separate himself as the "working class" candidate before it is too late. And it might be too late as we speak!

Voting Confusion? I don't know if it was by design, but the The American Independent Party - The Fastest Growing Political Party In California has voters confused. People think they are registering Independent and this is listed as a choice. Seems innocuous enough. I was at the HCDCC headquarters when a couple wanted to register, and the woman said she was registered as a an Independent. Sure enough, she was told she was in fact an American Independent, a party started by George Wallace! She laughed and changed her affiliation of course. I just wonder how many others have been duped to register with a white supremacy party?

More Registered Democrats on your way! Bob Service, Robin and I were registering voters at the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration 'King is needed now more than ever'. It was great time and we registered new Democratic voters! It was the last day that the HCDCC could register voters for this election. Many other HCDCC volunteers were registering voters all over the Eureka/Arcata area yesterday. I don't know what the final count was, but I will guess we will see 100 new Democrats just from yesterday.

Local Republicans Throw up the white flag? I don't know the last time I have heard of the Republicans doing a registration drive. Have they given up locally?

When I first moved to California in 1978, I registered American Independent, then I started getting strange mail from Lyndon LaRouche. I quickly changed parties. In other states like where I came from, Massachusetts, one can register Independent, which is like Decline to State in California.

I'd bet that most Californians who are registered as "Independents" have no idea that they are members of a political party which John Birchers dismiss as "nutty."

Richard,

The CURRENT local Republican party is an insignificant organization at the same level as the current green party and Fred's libs.

1. There should have been an organized protest when President Clinton was in town.

2. They should be publicly promoting thier candidates and pointing out the weaknesses in Obama and Hillary.

3. They should be speaking out on issues and political stances in the community that hold their values.

Richard: While I disagree with the endorsement of Pat "Walking down the track" Higgins over Charles "Choo Choo...Coming down the track" Ollivier, at least the Dems. had the balls to endorse and get involved.

This is my favorite quote for my boys' basketball team that seems appropriate sometime each year. You know what I mean!

While there are fantastic GOPers locally and some involved in the party, the party seems afraid to fight the fight and the failures that sometimes come.

One slight correction there, Mike: The Libertarians don't really have a local organization.

Fred, YOU are the natural leader for that organizing of Libertarians..of course, I am not sure if Libertarians believe in such stuff.

The AIP were handing out flyers featuring Ron Paul prominently. Since Paul is a Republican they apparently have no candidate and have to borrow one??

That was a good post Mike. And so true. That is a great quote by Teddy. That should get those 8th Grade Jacoby Creek Basketball boys hyped up. And after reading that quote........

Wooxen-As of today, I am on a diet once more. No more grandiose, large belly. 195, here I come! (I bounce between 200 and 250 for years now.)

I think the last time the local Republicans were actively involved was when Mike was in chair. I rememeber Mike actively registering people to vote at the county fair. Was it because of the recall campaign to oust Governor Davis?
