Northern Humboldt Union High School District Board Debate.

A pretty good crowd showed up to the debate hosted by the League of Women voters in Mckinleyville. It was not televised or broadcast on radio. There were 30 questions. So let me give my unbiased opinion on who won the debate. Robin. Oh c'mon, you knew I would say that. All kidding aside, these are 4 great candidates, and the NHUHSD is very fortunate to have a choice of people who all would do a good job. Robin and Greg Young had a difference about board protocol as far as coming to consensus before meetings, which of course is not good policy and should be taken care of at the actual meetings. Robin felt it was dangerously close to a violation of the Brown Act. But overall the candidates were well informed and professional.

Today's TS had a story about Wes Chesbro endorsing Robin Marks for school board. Pretty cool. This is a volunteer position that Robin has been eyeing for a few years. She has been waiting for incumbents to bow out and thought the time was right to try for a position.

Sign wars- Dan Collen has won hands down so far. The acronym on his signs for the NHUHSD is lacking one "H" but who is looking? Ross Miller has special signs for Arcata with a Tiger theme and signs for Mckinleyville with a Panther. Very clever. I sure hope we do not see some halloween prank of people in Arcata switching signs in Mckinleyville some night. Wink-wink. But I wonder how the parents of the district's sponsored Six Rivers Charter High School Pirates feel about those signs? Greg Young does not have signs out there as far as I know.

Robin's signs are the nicest looking.

Is Robin running for Treasurer of the Sophomore class?

Richard, thanks for the update on the school board race. Most of us weren't able to be there. When you have time, can you give us more of a summary like you did with the Harbor Dist race? How did all of the candidates match up. You say Robin won, but who lost and who else did well? What are the differences on the issues? How is the smartest? Who's the dumbest? Etc etc etc.

I don't vote by counting who has the most yard signs. I try to determine the best candidate and then vote. Robin has a good background for the job and I am voting for her on that basis.

I had to work that day, so I was late to the debate. I did not take notes or I would have done a more comprehensive story. (Plus I am obviously biased.)

By observation of the questions I heard, the candidates did not vary in their visions. None of the candidates seemed to have an agenda for sitting on the board. I feel they all had good intentions to do the public will. (However my wife would be better at it. See, that is why I stayed away from reporting!)

Robin, Greg and Dan are Democrats working in the education field. Ross Miller is a Republican business owner.

They all did a great job at the debate. All professional. (Greg did say, "We are participating in this platitudinous platform." Oh boy, big words. I guess he was badgering the political process.)

Oh yeah, Robin and Greg were the only candidates who have served on a school board and both were presidents of their respective boards. (Robin was president of the Peninsula Union School District for 5 years.)

Platitudinous? You won't get a better, fairer venue than our local League of Women Voters forum. Unlike other non-local forums, ALL candidates are invited. I bet in any other county they would exclude Greg for low poll numbers, deeming him "not a viable candidate." And yet, "platitudinous" tells me he still has disdain for the process. I bet he'll be overjoyed when I don't vote for him. He can whip out his thesaurus and whip up some good angst.

Is it just me, or does anyone find it odd that Wes Chesboro of all people is endorsing candidates for School Board?

Nothing against your wife, Richard, I just find it odd.

Robin is a class act. I don't know why she would want to be seen in public with a whore or get an endorsement from one. You must be giving her bad advice.

7:38, newspapers issue unsolicited endorsements. Other endorsements are requested, especially from current and former political figures. You don't get an endorsement from Wes without asking him. Right Richard?

As for your opinion of Wes, if not for term limits, he would still be in office. Balk all you want, but he is popular.

You are correct. Socialists due rule here. Sad.

I thought this was a non-partisan race. Who cares what their political party affiliations are? Vote for the candidate you think will do the best job, party notwithstanding. I never let a candidates political party affiliation determine who I am going to vote for. And, by the way, my political party affiliation is "decline to state".

What are you hiding?

It obvious he wants the state to decline even further. Socialist rule. At least in whackie-tabacie-land.

Wes is a voter in the district. So his endorsement is relevant, even if his former title isn't. Like him or not, he's local and he votes here. So what's the problem?

Ahhh, fundamentalists hang out here. Gotcha.

Lets please focus on Robin!!! The most Qualified and the person with the most integrety running in any of the local races this poltical cycle!!! GO ROBIN GO!!!

Don't be absolutly stupid. There are many great people running for election Dump Ass. Robin is only one.

Richard, did Chesbro trade his endorsement of your wife for your pledge not to run against Chesbro next year?
