Humboldt Domestic Violence Services (HDVS) Safe House Burns Down!

Sad news for the HDVS team. We lost a safe house to a fire today in Arcata. It will be on the news tonight and tomorrow. If you know of any house in Arcata that is for rent to replace this needed resource, contact HDVS: Humboldt Domestic Violence Services. There will also be a need for clothes, food, household items and of course monetary donations. Thank God that all were able to vacate the building unharmed. Last week there were 5 or more children being housed at the safe house. Any and all help will be more than appreciated.

Curious that the quote the Times-Standard received implied the Arcata house was the only safe house. Unless things changed within the past year or two, I thought they had at least one other house in another town. Yes? No?

Richard, what's the logic in the media, you, etc. identifying the house as a safe house? The place will surely be rebuilt, and then it can't be used as a safe house anymore because everyone knows about it.

They were probably just renting it and will need an alternate site immediately, long before any place can be rebuilt. What struck me was that the Times-Standard got the headline correct; in the Reporter you had to read down about twelve paragraphs to find out it was a shelter.

11:21am-Good point and relevant. The only reason I identified the house was that it became common knowledge through the press before I posted. Odds that this property will be used by the HDVS is very slim. We need a new place as soon as possible ro help those in need. Please get the word out.

It might not be something they want to talk about.

I didn't read the article. Is there any possibility it was something deliberate?

Finally, an Arcata house fire that can't be blamed on a 215 grow. What will the Eye have left to whine about?

Do we know for sure?
