Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2; Bush: 2.1

The last election,so you mean John Kerry,not Al Gore.
It means a lot of wrong people live in safe places.
They mean nothing out of context. You can find numbers like this anywhere. You just line them up and suggest they imply cause and effect, Does not prove there is any relationship. That is what you need too show, and that is far more difficult.

It would appear that the population density was much lower in the areas that favored Bush. More people that live in rural areas voted for Bush, and more city dwellers voted for Gore. That would also explain the difference in the murder rate. Crowd a bunch of people into a small area (big city) and bad things happen at a much higher rate than in the country, where the pace of life is slower and the stress less.

poor people vote for Democrats, especially in urban areas.

There was also a map being distributed after the last two elections showing that the states which Gore/Kerry took actually pay out more money in federal revenues while the "red states" paid less and took in more in federal spending.
