Humboldt County 2nd District Supervisor update!

I have heard from a very reliable source that Roger Rodoni is going to once again seek election for the Humboldt County 2nd District Supervisor seat. I have heard rumors of Rio Dell City Manager Nancy Flemming, Operating Engineers District Manager Steve Harris, Local Solutions kingpin Dennis Huber, Fortuna Mayor John Campbell and others running for this position without Roger seeking another term. Isn't 8 years enough to for Roger to spew his hateful/prejudice rhetoric? Hey Roger! Still going to bat for those Palco management leaders and let those working class millworkers starve? Go ahead and vote for more headwaters money to be spent on Fire and Light and catering jobs for $8 an hour. Way to represent your constituents that elected you! Just in office to get re-elected with no accountability of performance. Just keeps happening in Humboldt County people.

Richard, you'd be surprised how creative Rogers ideas are about using the Headwater Fund for real jobs. You ought to set down with him for awhile. The real culprit for these nowhere jobs and lolly-pop buisness ideas come from the non-guidence of John Woolley. Woolley publicly takes credit for the EPIC style onslot of no growth radicalism and the lets sue everyone with a bank account mentality in our county. Now."comrads", there's a buisness model to follow. Rodoni for another term? Hell yes! Woolley, ship him out of town tied to the mast.

Just took my shots at Wooley last week. Rodoni was big on endorsing the "Horse he knew" in Neely. He is part of the problem, not the solution. Or he would step up and not be part of the gravy train elitist portion of county processes. We need new people in government locally. I do like Jill and Jimmy though.

Richard you are unelectable, get over it. Until you get some professionals to run your campaign other than a washout and an 18 year old communist party member you will never go anywhere.

Shane Brinton said...

I expect the communist tag will follow me for my entire life. That was my mistake and now I have to deal with it. But will I always be 18? Most folks hit that age at some point. Most folks also get older than that. As far I can remember, there were no 18 year olds working on Richard's campaign. Just sayin'

Shane Brinton said...

Ps - Look at the votes and compare them with the money. We didn't run a bad campaign. Richard got more votes for the money he spent than Bonnie and Nancy did. If we had that much money... well, I have no doubt that Richard would have come in at least second. Probably would have won.

Hayduke said...

I don't know how much difference it would have made but one of the problems was that Richard got a late start and by the time he announced a lot of people that might have supported him had aleady committed to Neely.

Didn't Nancy take that job in Rio Dell just to set herself up to run for Rodoni's seat?

Anonymous said...

Nancy Flemming would have to LIVE in Roger's district, not jsut work there. I don't imagine her leaving her house on Indian Island any time soon.

Anonymous said...

Agree with 8:11 PM. Bonnie and John are the Headwaters subcommittee. I don't think either of them have ever attended a Headwaters Fund Board meeting though. Most of the people on the HFB just call their nonprofit friends to come on down and get money. Jobs?? They claim they have created jobs and might have by keeping their friend's nonprofit going. At least that person then had a job.

Anonymous said...

I wish someone would just shoot Roger like a spotted owl and be done with it.

Anonymous said...

anonymous 11:13, who are you calling a washout....
You ever done anything but just whine and hide behind this Blog. And for your info, This washout has a Masters Degree in Political Science and the 18 yr old kid is very brilliant and not your average 18 yr old. Matter of fact Shane and I can pretty much make anybody win--with the right resources.

So, just shut the hell up and stick with what you do best, what ever that is-- for Politics is not your best suit that is for sure.......

Anonymous said...

Looking back on Richards past attempts at office I can say they have been marked by the high quality of his staffers........ uh huh.....

Richard would be a great elected politician, the problem is he puts too much trust in you dunderheads. A couple months ago the little boy communist attacked Richard and called him dumb. What a little prick. And for you other Richard, maybe burnout is a more appropriate term!

Anonymous said...

How about a strong labor candidate like Harris? It has also been heard that former Rio Dell self appointed city manager Jay (the hamburgler) Parrish may be taking a run at the seat!

Anonymous said...

At least Roger has a realistic view of the railroad.

In my opinion, Richard was dumb for not endorsing Bonnie like he had promised to do if he lost the primary. That's why I was mad at him before and I'm still a bit unhappy about it.

To be honest, I think his view of politics is naive and rather simplistic. Richard and I have talked about this and I'm sure he has his criticisms of me as well.

But I certainly don't think he's a stupid person. Richard is a devoted grassroots activist, a brilliant idealist, and even a bit of a philosopher. These are the reasons that I volunteered to work for him. I'm very proud to remain his friend and co-conspirator today.

See, unlike most anonymous blog comment leavers, it's possible for real people to disagree and dislike some things about each other and still maintain a level of mutual respect. For instance, Rich Mostranski and I drove each other nuts during the campaign. Then we disagreed over who to endorse after Richard lost.

Still, I respect his abilities as a campaign manager, and, frankly, after seeing the results of the election, I think he probably did a better job than Bonnie's management team. Remember how popular Bonnie was at the start of the race? I doubt Nancy Flemming would have done that well if it wasn't for Rich.

I'll admit that I'm not the best campaign manager in the world. But an ok campaign manager is better than none at all. Richard didn't exactly have the money to hire a fancy consulting firm. He relied on people that he met at coffee shops and pizza parlors.

Anonymous said...

Shane the more you talk the less appealing you are.

samoasoftball said...

Naive and simplistic? Are you baiting me Shane?

Yes, I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one. Maybe some day you can join us, and the world will live as one!

Shane has one observation I totally agree with, finances were bleak all the way through my campaign. I had an idealist notion that I could be successful on idealogy and not except corporate dollars. Damn me for those thoughts.

Shane was great on raising the funds we had available. We were only outspent by around $200,000 dollars.

And Yes, I did promise Shane to endorse Bonnie. But that was well before the formation of "Democrats for Neely." All bets were off when Democrats decided to take pot shots at one of their own. Call me a wiener for that. Shane has called me worse.

Shane Brinton said...

Me, baiting you? Now would I do something like that, Richard?

Anonymous said...

Jah, Rastafari.

Anonymous said...

Glad you broke your "promise" to endorse Bonnie. She shouldn't have been reelected! Another four years. bah humbug

Anonymous said...

If Mostranski and Shane really thought Richard could win that last election, they are both naive. I think they just wanted to satisfy their over-inflated egos with some publicity from the highly regarded local media.

Anonymous said...

Dreamers aren't bad....People!
What do you think the framers of the Constitution were? I expect to hear more of Shane and his curiosity of the Communist Party was a youthful inquiry. *Most* people studies have shown, become more conservative with age.

Shane is highly intellectual and his judgement of Richard as naive and simplistic is shared by others who know you, Richard-and we love you anyway, OK?

I wish I could post under my own ID because if you knew-it would mean more to you both.

Anonymous said...

As for Mostranski-allowing your candidate to miss an appointment at the Senior Center [bad press]and be ignored by the T-S instead of getting it out there who she really is...you would have been wise to let her take the lead (or Push her to...as the case may have been).

The momentum was there, I wish you'd the expertise to take advantage of it.

But all things considered: Your candidate could have and SHOULD have won.

Anonymous said...

It is amusing watching Shane and other Richard attempt to tidy up their images. OF course you guys wont give Richard himself credit in any way... he is a lost soul without the likes of you...

Richard if you are reading this, stay the fuck away from people like these two clowns.

Anonymous said...

People who major and/or get masters degrees in Political Science (why do they call it science?) are to be trusted as much as the politicians they study. I.E. not at all.

Anonymous said...

John Campbell is not running. These are words out of his mouth.

The 2nd District needs to use Rodoni in the next canned hunt.

Dennis Huber is not a viable candidate and screwed whatever chances he had politically with Local Solutions.

Nancy does not have a chance either, she will not get any votes out of Garberville etc.

The 2nd District needs a moderate who get votes from Fortuna and SoHum.

Shane Brinton said...

10:56 - I give Richard the majority of the credit for his run. He did his best and he really cared. That's more than most politicians ever do. Yes, I point out some of his flaws, because I think it's important that people know what was going on behind the scenes in that election.

As for myself, I don't think there's much point in trying to "tidy up" my image. For many people, I will always be the 18 year old communist, even as I grow a little more conservative in my actual views.

Anonymous said...

anonymous 10:03 "allowing your candidate to miss an appointment at the Senior Center" [bad press]. You must be lost for that was before the Primary. I did not come on board until July 1. And being down heavly by % points and only having 4 months to do anything, and not even knowing the candidate
(met her once)I did a great job--plain and simple. Heck, I got the candidate basically even on election day. It just wasn't in the cards.
I will gurantee you this---that Bonnie worked her tail off, more than she ever did to keep that Chair. I had her scared and running. And I had no help from Thompson, Democratic Committee, Berg, and others that were on her band wagon. Nope, it was just me and my little staff that I had. So, you morons out there calling names, lighten the hell up. I am very proud on what I accomplished with Ricard Marks and Nancy Flemming. I learned alot and it was lots of fun win or loose.

And, would I run another campaign? Hell yes--in a heart beat, for it is for the love of Politics--plain and simple.

Jill is a phony. Looking for an Asembly seat.

Anonymous said...

The Assembly seat has already been promised to Wesley. My only question is will he have a viable opponent or just coast into office. I like Wesley but I think he should earn the position.

Anonymous said...

Too bad both Richard and Shane sold out and joined the dark side to team up with those same Central Committee robots who back that thug Mike Thompson who refuses to meet with the public and sics the IRS and the cops on protesters against him.

samoasoftball said...

Shane selling out? Not going to happen. Kind of funny to those that know him. That is not in his character.

Richard/myself? I have always took the bumpy road of my own opinion. Sell out? Give me a break. The people who know me know I have had ample chance, but have said no. Both Shane and I are not Mike Thompson fans concerning his war stance. If the Democrats are considered "dark Side" paint me black about the current occupation.

Anonymous said...

Mike Thompsons war stance is the one great thing about the man. What are you talking about Richard? He stood up when all the other Democrats ran for shelter. Say anything you want about the guy but his calls on the Iraq war have been spot on, and the only reason I voted for him in 04, and 06 and probably 08.

Shane Brinton said...

He's only been ok on the war. His original vote against it was certainly good. But he's been unwilling to call for an immediate pull out. He has refused to support stronger legislation introduced by Lynn Woolsey and others. When I mentioned that he should work with Kucinich he rolled his eyes. He also sent me a letter telling me that impeachment isn't on the table, even though it looks like the only way to end the war, short of a Democratic Presidency. Thompson is not terrible, but he's not great. He needs to be pushed.

Greg said...

Taking back both houses of Congress after six years of Bush Rule is proving to be inadequate. Dems are going to have to take back the White House, too.

Back to work, you guys. Dems need to find unity, rather than argue over local races. Mike Thompson is fine and deserves support. You guys on Richard's campaign team did an astonishing job, taking advantage of some long-earned antipathy toward the other candidates. (You know my stance in that race; no apology, no regrets).

Richard, start earlier next time. Or move to Fortuna and run. You might have a great chance with the SoHum electorate. Typically, a right-winger takes Fortuna, Rio Dell and Scotia, while the left takes Garberville, Redway, and rural SoHum. You would stand a chance in both electorates.

Personally, I wish Mel Kreb would run in District 2. Mel's a Democrat of the Year, Past President of Fortuna Kiwanis, organic farmer and a wheel at the state Conservation Corps. He says, unfortunately, "no".

Well, we could do (have done) worse than Rodoni. FYI, it looks like Jimmy Smith will run again. Good!

Anonymous said...

Jimmy will run and win until he decides to retire. Name me one thing Roger has done in all the years he's been a supervisor? The only thing worse than Roger would be a case of clap.

Anonymous said...

he only thing worse than roger would Be Richards toilette the day after a marathon buffet run.

Anonymous said...

Ronnie Pellegrini might run for Jimmy Smith's seat when he retires. Or maybe run as the republican for the assembly seat. Just a guess.

samoasoftball said...

Hey! I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed......but I can run a mean shovel. So am I simple minded or minded simply? I never claimed to be complex. I am pretty much "what you see is what you get." No frills and all that. I am by no means dumb. Just average. Like most.

Anonymous said...

No richard. Running for office should mean putting the community ahead your ego.

So you had your feeling hurt by Dems for Neely, get over yourself. Its not about you!

Most average guys in your position would step back after the primary and endorse the candidate that most shares thier values. Instead you made it about yourself.

samoasoftball said...

11:46am-I ran against Bonnie to take her out of office. I did not like the way she was/has been doing her job. And then endorse her? Wouldn't I be a hypocrite? I made no endorsement. I think that was the best thing to do. Closer race than I expected.

I am still a Democrat and I am on the HCDCC. Last election is history. I share the ideals of most on the HCDCC and look forward to helping them this election.

This thread was supposed to be about the 2nd District! What happened?

Hayduke said...

Don't totally dismiss the notion of Nancy running. Sure she has her place on Indian Island, but nothing keeps her from securing an address in the 2nd Distict and making that her official address. She does not even have to own it...an apartment in Rio Dell would do.

Happy now Richard? We are back on the thread track.

Hey Richard, a piece of advise:

Next time you poop, please flush the toilette as you are squeezing. That way at least some of it goes down with the first flush. Then use the paper. In this way we wont have any more future disturbances.

Anonymous said...

Richard,
You claim to have democratic values and you may, but your history of public endorsements indicate they are based on you own personal grievences.

You mention your dislike of John Wolley, becuase he did not endorse you.

Even Roger Rodoni must go according to you. Why? Because he didn't endorse you.

You worked against demcoratic mayor Peter LaValee cause he didn't endorse you.

You chose to campaign for Republican, Virginia Bass because she was nice to you when you are in her steak house.

All these choices are your right, but lets be clear, they are about your own ego, not any concern for the Democratic values you claim to hold.

Richard, there is a rumor going around that you clogged up the bathroom at your last humboldt Dem meeting. Apparently you then left the meeting early without fixing the problem, leaving your poor wife behind. Do you have a comment?

I am a whinney self centered wiener Bitch. There. Satisfied.

But you are still weak anonymous poster.

So I can tell you to bite me. Publically.

Rodoni is going to run again and win. He is a true independent. What's so great about the Woolley style proliferation of an economy based on a welfare state? Richard you truly don't support more of that mindless ideology. One that lines the pockets of all the good liberals(Dems). How about the real corporate corruption in the county? Casinos,Enviromental NGOs, Poverty Pimps. Run on your own two feet not a phony HCDCC plank and you will be a Supervisor.

Anonymous said...

Rodoni does pay fair market value for "Rainbow". You just don't don't know what that means.Pot may be to damn high priced, that's the fault of the feds. Farming is work, even if it's farming pot. They're much more honest than the sue happy enviro phony's or the 25,000$ casino donors. Lets hope Rodoni stay's in office and whip's the old gray mare day after day.

Hey Shane and udder Richard , enough about the 4th, weigh in on the possible candidates for the 2cnd!

Shane Brinton said...

Eric Kirk. Maybe he should run.

Anonymous said...

Who is Eric Kirk?

ok, now that we have discuss the past, what about the 2nd District.

I see that Steve Harris is maybe deciding to take a gander at exploring that possibility.... What a minute ---I think I am on that, exploring that possibility.

Stay tuned for more highlights

Anonymous said...

It is quite amazing that Garberville/Redway has not posted a liberal in the 2nd district. Not that they haven't tried. That's a tough district. Sal Steinberg gave it a shot, but didn't have the oomph to get past Fortuna. For that matter, would anybody have enough political saavy to get past Fortuna?

Steve Harris "Taking a gander... exploring the possibility..." Now there is a committment.

2:47 I'm sorry you've had the clap. If you were a cleaner, safer, citizen you could have avoided those dirty social pitfalls. Reading up on VD it's often stated that mental problems can develop later in life. That might explain your foolish ideas. You should seek spiritual and physical healing. Please, please also practice abstinence.

samoasoftball said...

Eric Kirk could not afford the pay cut.

In the late 90's the County Supervisor job paid in the 40 thousands. Now it is well over 70 Thousand! And Neely gets a special compensation bonus for being on the board over 20 years. I am sure this is all in line with other Humboldt County wage earners. Right? Just commenting.

When Syphilus got the first dose of the clap he didn't get it from screwing sheep. He got from a 4 term politician.
