Home Depot done deal?

You would have thought so this weekend. Home Depot set up shop and was also soliciting the Marina Center at the Home and Rec show at Redwood Acres this weekend. I wonder how many of those people wearing Home Depot aprons were from Humboldt County. And I wonder if Home Depot works in tandem with any other development projects such as the Marina Center any other areas around the nation. Lots of people seemed to be hovering around the booth. Didn't see a Pierson Booth. Or Ace for that matter. Saturday it was raining and windy.

My wife corrected me and said their booths were just next to each other. Seemed like they were together.

Did they bring any literature from the National Council of La Raza? I hear they're good friends of Home Depot.

I thought they were separate but next to each other. Home Depot was giving away small plants. Home show didn't seem to have as many vendors this year and of course if you signed up to "win" something you got on their mailing list forever.

Saw lots of people stopping to fill out a card of support for Baloon Tract. I walked around once in that building and then went back to get a small plant before going home.

Americans love to buy stuff cheap, don't they?

When Home Depot opens, "smart" shoppers will go to Pierson's to get the advice and expertise, then they'll go make the purchase at Home Depot.

CPR, I think you got it backwards. Americans love to buy cheap stuff. Also, how much expertise are you really going to get at Piersons?

The average employee at Piersons has nearly ten years of experience. While there are new hires and trainees, the amount of expertise available in most departments is very high, somewhat like you would find in an old time hardware store. They go out of their way to provide good customer service.

If a Home Depot every opens somewhere around here, Pierson's will be able to be competitive, but lots of other businesses will get clobbered. As has been stated on here, Americans value a bargain over quality most of the time.

What kind of benefits do Piersons employees get? I'm just curios because Home Depot has a reputation for being the best in that regard for the big box sector.

Regarding Piersons: Some of the employees are knowledgeable and very helpful, and others don't know much of anything and don't really care about giving good service. You just never know what you are going to get as you move from department to department within the store.

I worked at Pierson's some years ago

I recieved full benefits, but I'd say the pay was only alittle above average.

My guess is that they're gonna have to raise wages somewhat storewide

Home Depot is always giving how to classes and having shopped there in other areas their people can certainly give a lot of information and can answer questions. They are noted for being an excellent employer. Paying full benefits even for part time employees but also employees get stock plan.
