Happy Birthday Richard Mostranski!

Today is the other Richard's Birthday. Richard was the volunteer co-chair of the Marks for Supervisor committee. And he is a trusted friend. After the primary elections, I was removed from the 4th District Supervisors race and Richard chaired the Nancy Flemming campaign. He took a candidate that had 30% of the vote in the primary and improved the count by 20%. Local polls had Nancy way behind at the start and she may have pulled off a stunning upset of a 20 year incumbent. I will give much of that credit to Richard's work ethic. You will not find many with his bull dog tactics of getting things done. And he is an optimist who is always looking for the good in almost every situation. And if you live in Eureka or Myrtletown, you undoubtedly have seen him knocking on doors or putting up signs. After 2 campaigns he probably needs a break. Good job Richard. Take a break. You deserve it.

Richard, Good job on the Flemming campaign and Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday Rich. You know I can't stand Flemming, but I think you did a great job on her campaign. She was nothing without you. I mean it.

Way to go Mostranski, you ran two losing campaigns!

Shane said...

Given the situation and the bad candidate Rich actually did pretty well. Of course I also ran 2 losing campaigns. But sometimes there just isn't any way to win. Some candidates are stronger than others, regardless of their positions on the issues.

In my opinion:

STRONG
Jeff Leonard
Larry Glass
Ron Kuhnel
Virginia Bass

OK
Bonnie Neely
Peter La Vallee
Mary Beth Wolford

WEAK
Nancy Flemming
Nan Abrams
Mike Jones

HOPELESS

Gee SHane, I guess that means you are both losers. Nuff said.

Shane: I agree with your observation. I think most will. Maybe not publically though.

Interesting how Shane puts the men on top and the women on the bottom of his pecking order. Comerade Brinton also only works for male candidates and he ran for school board against a woman endorsed by the Central Committee he now sits on. Do we sense a pattern here? Will Shane be laboring away for Michael Winkler in 2008 and give the unelectable Harmony Groves the heave ho?

Richard, I think you should consider not allowing anonymous comments. These people just snipe from the shadows without facts.

You say you want facts Shane? Have you forgotten your own words above so soon? Is the above list not a true record of what you typed? Is it not also factual to cite your campaign against a Democrat-endorsed woman, and isn't your management of Richard Marks and Dave Meserve also self-admitted?

Face it Shane. There's no lack of facts at all here, and the suggestion you support your fellow Democrat, Michael Winkler, for a City Council seat in your town is hardly out of bounds. Are you so scared your covert support for Cobb-controlled Greens like Meserve and Groves might be exposed?

Anonymous said...

are you expecting a straight answer from comerade brinton? who needs facts when you let david cobb tell you what to think?

Shane said...

Oh, I'm sorry, you're right... there isn't a lack of facts. There is lack of relevant facts. Sorry I didn't make that clear to begin with.

First you asked if I was going to not support Harmony because she is a woman. Then you said that I support Harmony because I am part of the vast Cobb/Green conspiracy. Get your story straight man.

By the way... I encouraged Becky Kurwitz to run before I was even in the race. And we were both endorsed by the Central Committee. There were three seats. She probably could have won if her campaign hadn't been mismanaged.

There's more than one Anon floating around Shane, in case you haven't clued into that. You still haven't answered the question: Do you have a problem with local women politicians? Are you willing to put that to the test on the Harmony question and support or oppose her?

Shane said...

I just assume that you are all the same person since you all have the same name.

I'll have to wait and see about Harmony between now and election day. I want to continue to watch her performance, but chances are I will support her, especially since I consider her a friend.

Chances are I will not be supporting Michael Winkler, but I'll have to hear what he has to say next time around.

Just as we thought Shane, support an anti-homeless, anti-police review bigot like Harmony Groves, and stab a real progressive like Paul Pitino in the back. You can count on progressive opposition to your sorry ass in 2009 pal.

Shane said...

Who said I'm not going to support Pitino as well? All of this is yet to be determined. Who I support depends on who runs and what positions they run on. Let's wait until people file their paperwork.

Shane said...

And what will my sorry ass be doing in 2009 that will require progressive opposition? I haven't planned that far ahead. If you know something about my future that I don't please let me know.

Anonymous said...

Can you address all the regressive positions taken by Harmony Groves, or just make lame excuses for them?

Shane said...

There are some reasons I might not support Harmony. You and I might even agree on some of them. But I'm not going to write about them on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Yup, beat the shit out of Nancy Flemming, tar and feather Mike Jones, but don't you dare touch my Harmony!

OK This thread is going way of topic. We are sliding over into Arcata politics now. I thought most political figures from Arcata were progressive, but just on different levels.

Anonymous said...

Enlighten us all then. Name a single progressive thing Harmony Groves has ever accomplished in office. She shot down police review, bashed the homeless, even opposed public restrooms. Where's the accomplishment???

Anonymous said...

aw just quit baiting the poor boy hes clearly in way over his head and doesnt know a political fakir like harmony due to her (rapidly diminishing) feminine charms.

These comments are getting strange. Don't you guys have anything better to do than to talk about this kid? It's more than a little freaky.

Why should anyone support the homeless? If they were offered jobs for their room and board do you think they would accept the work? Arcata politics are a joke and all who are involved are morons. Its been great reading this blog, have a great day!Happy birthday Richard!

The Arcata Plaza homeless would be more than happy to work, if you have some bud to trim.

What is it that you see in the man Richard Mostranski? Why are you friends with him? You seem to be a decent sort. He is a low life and a teller of TALL tales... in so many words he likes to really strech the truth. Did he not act like he knew everything in your dealings with him? What was Flemming thinking? She lost because everyone figured out he was a loser. (ok maybe not true but he is) have you ever asked him about his past? Do you really know anything about him. I have been dying for months to write in... and yes I must protect myself by using Anonymous. There are many people in this county that were cracking up when he began to show up in the paper for you, then when he took over the job for Flemming. DO YOU PEOPLE EVER THINK OF DOING BACK GROUND CHECKS OR ANYTHING??????
Also why while working for you on your compaign was he NOT a registered voter? Does anybody know that? He always seems to fly under the radar. I am just sick of seeing it. I know that the cream should rise to the top and that I probably should not have posted because I am a better person than that. But seriously I just cannot see what YOU people see in him. I do wish you well in your future, just get smart and do it without him.

I also think Dick M. is a loser and not only because he successfully lost two campaings.
