My first prediction is a low voter turnout. I will say less than 25% in Humboldt county. Why? Just the School Board and Special Districts races on the ballots.
Mckinleyville Community Service District- John Corbett and Dennis Mayo. Helen Edwards may slip by Dennis, maybe not. Dennis barely lost a few years ago. Daniel Pierce may sneak a good amount of votes.
Manila Community Service District- Dan Ihara, Joy Dellas, Mike Fennell and Shelly Lima. This Service district is in a shambles and hopefully these people can steer Manila on a straight course.
Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District Commissioner Division 2- Roy Curless looks to have circled the wagon pretty well. His supporters are strong. Carlos Quilez has put up a strong campaign south of Fortuna. Newer resident Steve Morris has put in some good LTE Opinions in the local papers. If he garners 10% of the vote he will have done well on a no money campaign.
Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District Commissioner Division 5- Patrick Higgins over Charles Ollivier in a close race. A few weeks ago I would have said Patrick by a huge margin, but Charles campaign has rallied the last few weeks with an impressive monster newspaper campaign. And the TV ad with Clinton was a strong move. Higgins campaign has been methodical and relentless from the beginning and seems to have carried enough momentum to survive though.
And what are your predictions?

I am in agreement, low voter turnout.

Richard,
What about the most important race? NHUSD
As Shane knows I was right-on with Shane pulling out the victory. Shane did a great job. I'll give you mine tomorrow.
Mike
And all the Unions went for Ollivier, Richard, but not you.
Rose-Point well taken. Not all unions went for Ollivier or all union leaders.
4:31pm Mike- You mean the NHUHSD race? Robin! OK. Reality check. Collen has many supporters in Arcata. Miller in McKinleyville. Robin will dominate Fairhaven, Samoa, Manila and Orick. Trinidad/Blue Lake is up in the air.
Yea, and all the unions in Detroit fought MPG and emission standards for years and look what that got them. They now have lost 4/5 of their workforce (and 1/2 the benefits) because they make out moded gas guzzling junk.
The same shortsightedness is how local unions will encourage our politicians to chase fantasy ports that will only creat fantasy jobs to their own detriment.
right and wrong. right about missing the boat in detroit, wrong about not looking to the boat in eureka,.
Really? Based on what?
This is a who cares? election. Voter turnout will be maybe 20%. WHo cares?
I sure hope you're wrong about Corbett, that rude slimeball has done nothing but put up roadblocks to progress in McK. He's also directly responsible for fucking up the Co-Op's finances, seven years later and they're still deep in debt, which is why they winded up in bed with Arkley. Of course Corbett was in bed with Rodney Brunlinger from the Co-O board at the time, which is probably why he wasn't paying proper attention to business.
The only Union to endorse on the pocket book issues of its Members has and will always be Local 3.
My pick were close! Dennis Mayo just missed again. I did mention that Helen Edwards could win though. Higgins in a landslide! Did not see that.
