Day late and dollar short on Gallegos.

I was at Cal Courts Tuesday for noon time basketball. I have been playing with the same basic core of players there for years. We usually just talk about life issues and I was surprised the topic strayed to Paul Gallegos and the story in the Eureka Reporter. The Eureka Reporter - Article Man there were some hot people over this one. I later went to work and people at my workplace were up in arms there also. I haven't seen that much emotion out of people about a local political issue for some time. After the Times Standard was scooped once again, they answered with this article: Times-Standard Online - DA's office: State OK'd handling of plea deal I see on my fellow blogs that the issue has been heated. Eric Kirk came out looking pretty stable as he asked for patience to see the story further carry out. But here is my take looking from the outside, what is in it for the tribe to give Paul $10,000? Is it for his good works or what? I want to know the underlining motivation for Leonard Bowman to push for the endorsement. It sure does not look good from my vantage which I admit is limited. Steve Lewis says that Bowman did not have the majority tribal agreement for a campaign contribution. Is this really the case? Was everything done in order? It has been a crazy last few months after this heated election. Will things ever settle down for Paul? I guess we will have to wait and see. If there was a recall election tomorrow, it would be very interesting to say the least.

Gallegos is either corrupt or he has gutted the office to such an extent that dealing away 9 felonies in a day is par for the course. Either way, it is pretty awful.

The uproar over this last Gallegos episode was, in my not so humble opinion, because of the totality of "issues" that keep coming up about Gallegos; the plagiarism or honesty issue, the association with Salzman and his "fraudulent" letters to the editor, the firing of A. Jackson and later W. Dikeman, his real or percieved loyalty to the marijuana growers/industry, the Tim Stoen DISASTER and all the fallout that went along with that, and probably most of all is the shambles that the DA's ofice is in due to Paul's lack of experience, lack of integrity, lack of character, lack of leadership, and general mis-managment of the office.

Crooks, criminals, and other low lifes are the ones getting over during the riegn of Gallegos.

Humboldt County is stuck with Gallegos for another 3 plus years. And with the mess he has made of the office what decent lawyer would want to do battle with Salzman, Miller, and the other "progressives" to take over that mess? The criminals have won.

It's a fair question Mark. It is a lot of money for a local election. They obviously liked something about what he's doing.

Or didn't like the opponent.

Or wanted some special consideration cause it's obvious at least one member of the family would need it!

Anyway you look at it, it is not pretty picture. I don't care how expensive the camera you use!

Well, see, there's a problem with that theory now. Cordoza insists that neither Gallegos nor Keat ever spoke to him about the case, and apparently didn't even know when it had been pled. So unless Cordoza is a willing part of the conspiracy, the theory is at a dead end.

Ms. Muller is focusing on the appearance issue, which is valid. Perhaps he should have sent the matter out of the office altogether. But would Cordoza lie to protect a bribe taking boss? Because that's what you're going to have to prove.

Eric: Seems like all the people who hang in my circle of friends are really convinced there is collusion. I for the life of me can not see this kind of donation made with no strings attached. All the rest of the Bowman mayhem is just a coincidence? I am having my doubts still.

Well, it certainly looks bad when he doesn't answer questions. But he also may not be talking to the ER simply because he regards them as a political adversary at this point. It's the third major story in a month about him. I don't believe Ms. Muller has it in for him, but one could get that impression. The TS hasn't broken any of the stories, but it could mean they're either in his camp, lazy, or not interested in bucking power positions - remembering a Ukiah Daily Journal editorial about how small town papers really shouldn't be muckrakers.

But now anybody pushing the collusion theory is going to have to call Cardoza a liar. There's no getting around it.

The Tom Delay and Abramoff case comes from recieving tribal casino money and we all know how that turned out. Now we have to ask ourselves what the $25,000.00 donation to Neely is all about. What did she promise them or what is she getting out of it?That happened around the time the Gallegos issue became public. I'm not judging I'm just say'in!
