Chesbro vs Marks? Unions jumping the gun?

It seems that Wesley Chesbro will be announcing his candidacy for 1st District Assemblyman on June 21st at the Labor Temple. His campaign sent out slick invitations to select labor organizations asking for their endorsement/active support and attendance at his reception. I am sure he will be asking all the leaders for a picture photo op to show their backing. This is way before any labor organizations have sent invitations to prospective candidates to interview for union endorsement consideration. I hope local union representatives will hold off on making official announcements until all candidates are identified and interviewed.

Of course rumor has been out there on the labor scene of my potential candidacy for 1st District Assembly position. I ran unsuccessfully for the position in 1995, but had the most cost effective campaign during the election cycle that particular primary. I have been offered help from all political corners if I decide to challenge Mr. Chesbro. I have not made an official announcement one way or the other, and realize that it would be an uphill battle. But I would like to bring up topics near and dear to my heart locally, and it is a great public forum. Put up or shut up, and I am not good at the second.

I do have concern as a union member and union organizer of Mr. Chesbro’s record with labor. At the pulp mill over the years we have had labor and corporate issues that have been high profile over the years. I do not remember Wesley stepping up as a local leader from his County Supervisor seat or from his seat on the State Senate concerning over 200 prime paying jobs at the mill. I never heard a word of encouragement or acknowledgement of organizing success out at the Louisiana Pacific Chip facility or his support of the hundreds of Carpenter’s Western Council of Industrial Workers who lost their employment through labor actions and attrition. In his own Arcata based area the workers at Arcata Particleboard numbering 150 at the time were given no words of encouragement by Wesley’s office when I attempted to organize them. What exactly has Wesley done for labor?

Here is a quote that I will let you all guess who said it. I will give you a hint that he was a president of a labor organization: “Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.”

Perspective is a specific point of view. Prospective is expected or likely (looking towards the future).

Until you gain a better command of the English language, you don't stand a chance against Chesbro or anyone else that is better educated and a more polished public speaker.

In order to be a successful politician, you have to be a whore to the media and you have to look and sound like you have some brains.

Sorry Richard, but sometimes the truth hurts.

Wes sounds like an empty headed dweeb...explain that 11:58

Maybe to you he does, but not everyone would agree with you. Most liberals that vote for him are also empty headed dweebs, and therein lies the problem. Chew on that 12:00.

As I recall,Richard, the last time you ran for a union position. You were un-opposed and still lost.

Better educated? I don't believe that Wes recieved his BA from Humboldt. I went a few years of college. Wish I would have made it past that English course.

Can I forward my posts to you so you can correct them first?

No. Because you are anonymous. I just can't win.

Wesley must be very nervous to be announcing this far out. It's a year to the primary for goodness sake. I assume he's just trying to lock up the money and supporters and lock out any other potential candidates. Since it will cost him $600,000 to win, getting an early start isn't a bad idea. I'll be interested who shows up for the announcement, especially if Patty or someone from Patty's office does.

Wes has been well schooled in the art of F%#*#%g the public. He's been running full bore every since he got his 117,000$ dollard a year payola position at water quality. It's one photo op after another. If our local unions fall for this slime job, Richard your sunk. The district will be stuck with more of the democrat entitelment policies that have strangled us the last 25+ years. Wes is a slimes slime,it seems that is the number one qualification for elected office in our district. Richard you should still run but turn away from Wes' welfare ideology.

"I just can't win."
That should be your campaign slogan,Richard.

3:58pm-In life or in love? I have been pretty lucky in both.

3:58 I don't agree with Richards views on the kissie face with the HCDCC and several other issues. You may be right on your "can't win" statement. What's sad about that is that Richard may not win simply because he is Honest and Wes could win because he is Dishonest. A very sad state of affairs.

You just can't win, and apparently, neither can Road Kill.

I have had a huge day regarding support for my potential run for the 1st District Assembly seat. Endorsement and funds offered. I will be hosting a committee meeting within a few weeks. Then it will be in the committees hands.

A silly idea. And you know it.

If you want to be an elected official, move to Eureka and wait for the next city council race.

Richard, you are soooo delusional.

Shane Brinton, why is it a silly idea for Richard Marks to challenge Wesley Cheese-bro for the Assembly? Sure, it is definitely going to be difficult to defeat Cheese--bro and all of his dough, but someone should challenge that moustache-wearing has-been. Shane, are you saying that a person who runs for office should be interested in doing so only if they are likely to be elected? If we are to take Shane's advice seriously, then nearly no elected incumbent would face opposition come election time in America. We already have enough unopposed politicians walking right back into office in this country, Shane. Cheese-bro deserves to remain in retirement. The North Coast can do better than Cheese-bro. And why is Shane Brinton = a lowly school board member in Arcata = insisting that Richard Marks run for city council instead? It sounds like Shane may be jealous. Don't worry, Shane Brinton. Keep selling out to the geriatrics on the HCDCC and maybe someday in 20 or 30 years, if you're a good boy, Shane, you can run for the Assembly too.
