Tired on the Dunes. Sandwellers need sleep too!

Oh Merl, please keep your opinions to yourself. Or just send a right wing manifesto to all. Hey, I grew up and have respected your opinions for 4 decades. Our economic and sociological dynamics have changed big guy. Sad but true.. .....Palco bankrupt? I have been public with my views of the Palco's inept forest practices. Why is it that the workers must suffer from managements ineptness........ I just finished working 27 hours out of 36 all at night. I had some obligations in between. I told Robin I was only going to sleep a few hours and go to the gym. For what ever reason, I was able to bench in reps nearly 6,000 lbs and finish up with other chest exercises and then 30 minutes cardio. Now, there is nothing left of me........ I am now officially playing the worse basketball of my life. So you are going to hear it right now. I am going on a diet. Man I hate that word! I will have to cut the buffet practices and Bev's. I have to lower the portions. Damn! I need to lose 30 lbs by May. I will keep you posted. Maybe a top ten low fat places? Say it ain't so!

Richard - you sure pack a lot into one paragraph! Get some sleep, man.

How long before the connection is made between rampant social problems and job loss caused by Maxxam's mismanagement of Pacific Lumber? Someone from Rio Dell pointed it out to the Board of Supervisors about a year ago. Maybe it was Jim Garvey.

Good morning, Richard. I hope you got a good night's rest. Don't think of your new life as a diet. Think of it as trying to live as long as possible.

My take on the PL deal: just like yours - lookout, retirees!!! Hopefully, Bill Bertain and Co. are looking this over very, very closely. My next-door neighbor has ONE more year with PALCO until retirement.

A diet isn't a couple of weeks or months - it is a change forever. It seems like it is easy to stick to healthier eating after having a major health issue and reading labels on food becomes a way of life. Don't get yourself into a forced healthy lifestyle but just do it for yourself.

It's not mismanagement! It's pure underhanded white collar crime. Those that have, can do what they want. This was Hurwitz's plan from the beginning. Well thought out, and taking advantage of all the loopholes that his rich, lawmaking buddies in Washington provided.

How fat am I? I just weighed in at 234lbs today at 5'11". Last June I was around 205lbs. Opps, I did it again. I seem to roam between 200 and 250 pretty frequently. I feel stronger while heavier, but much slower. I graduated Eureka High at about 100lbs. At Zane I weighed around 60lbs. But not many in my weight class in wrestling. I was a runt until about 21 years of age.

Oh, by the way, I will lose those pounds. I just have to cut back. But I am a self admitted food monger. Robin has made a huge salad with Chicken as the main dish for the week. I will be working a 60 hour week, so I can't sneak off to Hometown this week.

I must admit that Palco was not mis-managed-this has been well thought out. Just like the Stockton Pacific/Samoa Pacific Pulp Mill ripoff. I just can not understand how they can get away with it!

Richard, try Dr Mehmet Oz' book: You on a Diet. Available sometimes at Costco or $14.70 at Amazon.com. An easy read, you get a filling breakfast (but not all you can stuff in there). Its An Owner's Manual for Waist Management don't get on the scale every day because you can lose healthy muscle mass if you 'diet' the wrong way.

If you keep us up to date I'll start posting results on my own page. Promise.

Men lose weight easier and faster then women! I had gastric by-pass surgery and my husband lost 37 pounds! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Cut back on the white carbs and you will drop 30 pounds in no time.
As for PL, I know many people who are retired and receiving a pension. I hope they aren't going to get screwed over. Most of the people my age left the mill in the last 10 years.

Richard, you can just go over to any one of your neighbors houses and ask them for their weight loss secrets. See, the Sand Dwellers know how to lose weight, and lose it fast. I dont want to be specific, since you are a semi-public personality. But ask your neighbors and they might have a little magic dust for ya to lose that weight, and allow you to still attend the buffet's!

Richard, in case you weren't aware, muscle weighs more than fat. All else being equal, if you gain muscle- as you might well have done lifting weights- you will gain weight.

Of course, over time the dynamics of your body composition can change.

Many years ago, when I first started lifting weights fairly seriously, I weighed a bit over 180 at 5'9". A combination of weights and runnig had me down to 170 pretty quick. I kept going with the excercise and soon was up to 185, about where I am now, and I wasn't fat.

6:34pm-I know this was in jest, but I remember when Dr. Whisinger? doled out pretty much speed in the 70's and 80's to many women in the area to lose weight.

Fred: Yes I am aware of the muscle weighing more than fat. It was ironic that a few years back I was in the gym constantly and weighed 250lbs and I looked 250! I went on the Adkins and dropped to nearly 200lbs and looked all right, but I felt weak. I will lose it slower this time. I already am craving Home Town.

I actually think there's a certain percentage of body fat each body is pretty much supposed to have. Don't know if it's genetics, or what, but back in the early 80s I was really doing physical fitness stuff pretty fanatically.

I was trying to get those great abs and get rid of the slight rubber tire in the midriff I had, among other things. I knew I couldn't do it by excercise alone so I tried to really keep the calories down- no pizza and such.

I'd get a little more defined as time went on and my rubber tire was starting to disappear but, as soon as I felt I might actually be getting there, I'd just go bozonkers with cravings for all kinds of junk food.

I'd break down and head to Tom's Sourdough and stuff my face. I'd try and start over again and the same thing would happen.

I finally came to the conclusion that my body was supposed to be a certain size and shape with a certain percentage of body fat. If I tried to radically alter it, my body would cry "foul".

I kept up my routine as best I could, for some time, but gave up on the relatively strict diet I was trying to follow. I figured I'd let my mind and body make what it wanted of itself.

If you are in pain from lifting weights, you are doing it wrong. Try for less weight but more reps.
