Best Salad Bars in Eureka Redux. Back to my Blog roots!

Time to get back to what this blog does best. Analysing places to eat. I know I am probably not the best on the all subjects green to eat, but there are usually things that go with each salad bar to make them palatable. Here is my top ten list for Eureka Salad Bars:

10. KFC Broadway- Not a real good set up and their dressing just yucky.

9. Oriental Buffett- Uh, just who even touches the salad with all the other stuff they have. But it is available.

8. Marie Calender's- Not too bad, just seems that something is not there. Or maybe I just have too much soup!

7. Co-Op- I would give this one a much higher rating if it weren't for the grazers who pick and eat out of the trough! Have some class! (Says the guy who eats anything.)

6. Big Louie's- Price is right and everything is always clean. Harold and his crew do good stuff for the community and I have had many a pizza from here. If it is Saturday, you will most likely see Robin, Ron, Laureen and I watching some sporting event and keeping up with life events.

5. Hometown Buffet- The salad bar is just there to put a base for the main grubfest. I take my sister Mary there once a week, so many have witnessed me there. I am a huge fan. Been to many all over the west coast while traveling. Pretty consistent.

4. Angelo's Pizza- Everyone goes to Angelo's for pizza with pzazz, but they do have an intense salad bar with many goodies. And good people making the place go.

3. Sea Grill- I love their presentation and their choices. Some may think of them as expensive foo-foo, but have the salad and fish and chips and you will be pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price.

2. Babetta's- Great consolidated choices. But can you put anything green on your plate with that awesome macaroni and cheese they have there! And Bab's and Sabrina are great host's! If you have not had their lunch, take a loved one and enjoy!

1. Sizzler- Always clean and consistent and chicken wings are a good addition. Karen's crew is always positive and down home.

The Sea Grill's salad bar is a great deal!

What about the Pickle Barrell. It's pretty darn good.

One of those establishments wouldn't be on my list. When I see flies at the salad bar, I don't return.

Hometown Buffet is about the easiest place to take kids, especially picky kids. But, it's still the ugly half-cousin of Fresh Choice.

FC pretty much built a restaurant around the idea of the salad bar, and tossed in a few items to appease the odd friend or relative who gripes, "Why didn't we go to Hometown?" I'd love to see a Fresh Choice in Humboldt.

I've not tried Babetta's for lunch, will have to make it over there.

Yep, Sizzler is #1. They even have a make- your- own- taco spot at the end of one of the salad bars.

Pickle Barrell? Where is that?

What about Blue Lake Casino? Alice's Restaurant has a great salad bar with lots of stuff and many good salad dressings too. Best part of the soup and salad lunch is that they also offer 4 or 5 hot entrees to go with it. Good mac & cheese when they have it. I heard they went back to their punch cards when you have lunch they punch them and after so many you get a free lunch.

To bad you don't have a sweet tomatos down there. My FAV salad bar spot in PDX.

Awaiting to eat good,,

From my understanding, the Pickle Barrel is now out of business.

David S: Adels had a pretty good chef salad. And they have pretty good steaks to wash that down with!

I think a Mike's garlic fry salad would be the perfect salad

Try that little sandwich place in Henderson Center for a really good salad bar. When I went, the ingredients were very fresh and nothing seemed bagged or left over from the day before. I think it's called Deos or Meos or something like that. It's across the street from the pharmacy parking lot. They have a killer french dip, too.

I am not sure if anyone has been to Shamus T-Bones but it is the best I have had up here bar none. Two people can eat a great steak , potatoes and chili for under $50. It is too bad there isn't a Red Lobster or an Olive Garden up here.

Yep, Deo's, I believe. I've heard good things about the place but it's very small. Whenever I've went by to try the place out it looked like standing room only with no place to sit so I've never really tried it.

Hey, Samoa....do you remember the King's Table next to Montgomery Ward's? Not a bad salad bar, there.

As far as a good Chef's Salad, I would agree with Adel's or Kristina's. I personally like the Mediterranean Salad at Kristina's. Feta Cheese and all. And sorry to say, none of the high-falutin restaurants have Chef's Salads. That and a good Chicken Fried Steaks They usually have an over-abundance of spinach salads with all manner of roots and twigs and purply leafy greens...if you favor grazing like a goat.

If'n it ain't Ice Berg Lettuce...It Ain't American!

Eko: Yes! I remember King's Table! Used to take the kids there. My youngest son Jordan used to drive us nuts by just going for the basic food groups.....in color in the form of jello. Do you remember the regular there who dressed as Santa? I loved that place! As far as going down memory lane, I used to love Andy's Prosperous Pizza layout and of course going way back to one of the original buffet lunch places in the 60's, Verla's Pizza.

Geez, Yes, I do remember him now that you mention it. Great memory flogger!

Also as teenagers, we used to wear the paper crowns around town just for fun. And yes, I do remember Shakey's Pizza, well. But, for some odd reason, we were Angelo's fans. Probably, because they were in every town. And because of the duck hunting game. Although, I really liked Straw Hat in Arcata because of the old movie reels of the Three Stooges. As far as pizza goes today, Smugs is the best, followed by your friends at Big Louie's....The farthest down on my list is Big Pete's. Sorry, but I'm not a thin crust kind of guy and I mistakenly had a vegan slice there with fake cheese and I just about lost it.

Although, I will say, for snooty pizza, Hurricane Kate's is alright and Tomaso's used to make a good fancy pie....but, that again is for the yuppie types. I prefer the blue-collar pizza joints best.
You know, where Little League teams go, not soccer teams.

The Oaxaca Grill (I know I'm not spelling it right) has a nice simple salad bar.

But the Sea Grill has my favorite.

Nobody cares about what salad bars you like Eric.
