Say it ain't so! KFC Fortuna closed.

Robin was driving home from Sacramento trip today and I asked her to stop at KFC Fortuna and get some breasts, mac and cheese and taters. And a chocolate cake to wash it down. When she got there she said it was closed up! I enjoyed their buffet. We now have no KFC's in Humboldt! This is an outrage!

Devastating news for all of us on this mournful day. Reporting live from Humboldt. Tomorrow, what led to the events of such a tragic ending? Women who love the KFC, and the men who love them. Back to you softball..

All true fans of The Colonel abandoned the restaurant when it switched owners and changed The Colonel's famous biscuit recipe in the 1980s. Oh, and true fans call it the mother*&!@ing Kentucky Fried Chicken.

If you want 'KFC', try hitting the 'BK.' I hear the Chicken Snack Wrap is A-OK.

The Crescent City Kentucky Fried is also closed. Nearest place still open is in Brookings.

Anyone tried Church's(?) Chicken at the old KFC building in Burre Center, Eureka?

I wonder if they're moving out of California? The one in Cloverdale is still there. It's part of that Shell mini- mart at the south end of the town. I've never seen anybody that one until the last time I was there a couple months ago.

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

KFC was bound to go down sooner or later. The food was slop and the food preparers did not really give a chit about loving the food they slop together. The food was overly expensive, underly non-nutritious and well, shall the HOJ say anymore?

Curious though on the Shell "reference". Why? Answer is because other local food supply stores charge (10%) above the costs that Shell charges on the very same and exact items. HOJ has found himself buying milk and other staples (believe it or not) at Shell because it is the same product, but 10% less with a longer expiration date (this does not include extra savings from the credit card pilot program Shell is fabricating like Ray's, Safeway, etc...). Food is expensive partly because these Pilot Card programs make the costs go-up while re-setting higher benchmark sales transaction levels. Its "the 21st Century" pricing scheme to maximize profits promulgated against the poorest consumers or those whom refuse to be credit card junkies and just want to pay cash ONCE for the lowest possible price. Businesses can be scumbags too playing their "for profit schemes and ruses".

Anyhow, most of society is duped with regard to societal costs! - HOJ

Am I the only one to not understand what the huge thing is with fried chicken? It all tastes the same to me. Well at least you have a big chain of chicken stores so I guess that's exciting for some reason. Can someone please tell me what makes one fried chicken better than the other? Maybe it's my lack of any sophistication whatsoever in my palette but I just don't get it.

Chris: Remember Samoasoftball's top priority? Quantity over quality! Don't care if it tastes that good, just give me lots of it! (Except Churches, can't hack them.)

I hardly ever go for take out fried chicken myself, but I read years ago that fried chicken is the most popular fast/take out food in the country. I would have thought pizza or burgers, but I guess not.

I used to not mind KFC but some years ago my body started reacting differently to it and I'd actually get nauseous after eating it. It might have had something to do with too much grease or oil. I stayed away from it after that.

I haven't been there. What's wrong with Churches?

Fred Mangels said...

Oh, not quite the same thing, but Winco has baked and fried chicken to go back in their deli section. I'll buy some of that every now and then.

Churches is just OK. Their corn is no good. The chicken seems smaller. Maybe they need more hormones!

hahaha oh yeah that's right Richard! Forgot about that :-) A lot has been squeezed out of my head to make room for a lot more stuff. Fred, so it has something to do about what your stomach is able to stand and what's popular? In regards to quantity, you like the buffets in Reno? Last time I was there was in the Nugget. Incredible buffet. Lots of fish whose names I couldn't pronounce or have heard of. Also memorable because that was the first casino that I won money in without gambling of any kind.

What's wrong with churches? I really can't tell what's good and isn't.

First time poster. We could be soul mates. Long time ball player only played one year here in Humboldt (Eureka Pawn). Too old and too fat to play anymore. Talk about greasy fried food the Oriental Buffet also closed this month in Fortuna. Where is all the love?

Wonderful blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?

I'm planning to start my own site soon but I'm a little lost on

for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm totally overwhelmed .. Any tips? Thank you!
