I was wrong on three seats. But check out the percentages. I predicted within 5% 14 out of 22, and all within 11%! I was very close on most!
Obama, Thompson and Chesbro. Easily.
Humboldt County Supervisor 2nd District
Clif Clendenen-No Party 37% Actual 40%
Estelle Fennell-Democrat 33% Actual 28%
Johanna Rodoni-Republican 30% Actual 32%
I was pretty close percentage wise. Johanna’s campaign did a great job of educating voters, but that write in thing is tough. Thank goodness no more “Pick Clif” ads!
Eureka City Council 2nd Ward-
Polly Endert-Republican 53% Actual 47%
Linda Atkins-Democrat 47% Actual 53%
The KEET forum seemed to be the turning point for the Atkins campaign. And I have never witnessed such a miss use of money in a campaign than in Endert’s case. (Too many mailers and newspaper ads.)
4th Ward-
Frank Jager-Republican 55% Actual 63%
George Clark-Democrat 45% Actual 37%
Tough one to run against. Frank is just a really good guy. Clark pretty much had no chance. A landslide in predominately Democrat area. Obviously I was wrong on that partisan thingy.
Arcata City Council (Three seats available)
Michael Winkler-Democrat 38% Actual 29%
Shane Brinton-Democrat 31% Actual 20%
Michael Machi-No Party 28% Actual 17%
Susan Ornelas-Republican 25% Actual 20%
Jason Grow-No Party 9% Actual 9%
Geronimo Garcia-Green Party 5% Actual 5%
Hey! Why didn’t anybody point out I screwed up the math on my prediction! Oh well, I was right on with Jason and Geronimo. Machi lost. Didn’t see that coming.
Humboldt Bay Municipal Water
DistrictDivision 1
Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap-Green 58% Actual 62%
Stephen Davies-Democrat 42% Actual 38%
No surprise here.
Division 2
Ben Shepherd-Republican 35% Actual 30%
Edward “Buzz” Webb-Democrat 25% Actual 28%
Tera Prucha-Democrat 25% Actual 35%
Jake Pickering-Democrat 8% Actual 3%
Adrienne Floreen-No Party 7% Actual 4%
Nice surprise here. I thought Tera was the best choice. The Democrats in this race took 66% of the vote. This is becoming a very liberal area.
Division 3
Barbara Hecathorn-Republican 65% Actual 62%
Robert Shultz-Democrat 35% Actual 38%
Bob didn’t have much of a campaign. Barbara did. It showed in the numbers.
The HCDCC endorsed candidates went 6-3 and are 21-3 the last few elections.

Your miss use of funds comment really hit home here Rich. I had enough mailers in a two day period to roll a 9 inch thick fireplace log and this went on for three weeks. Heck I am ready for a blizzard now.
And thanks for posting the results
"And I have never witnessed such a miss use of money in a campaign than in Endert’s case. (Too many mailers and newspaper ads.)".
Agreed, but I don't know I'd blame Polly. Seems to me I've received umpteen mailers from other candidates before. Maybe it's someone else in the system that makes these decisions?
I received some of her mailers just a day or two apart. I can't imagine someone making a deliberate decision to to that, although I suppose you never know.
Now let's see how long it takes for the signs to come down. Please everyone, take down the signs!
And recycle them properly!!
Are the plastic signs even recyclable?
Maybe the secret to winning big is misspelling your own name on your own mailer.
Yes. All plastic is recyclable.
Not all plastics are recyclable. There are 4 types of plastic which are commonly recycled:
Polyethylene (PE) - both high density and low-density polyethylene.
Polypropylene (PP)
Polystyrene (PS)
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
A common problem with recycling plastics is that plastics are often made up of more than one kind of polymer or there may be some sort of fibre added to the plastic (a composite) to give added strength. This can make recovery difficult.

"Maybe the secret to winning big is misspelling your own name on your own mailer."
Or maybe the secret is running against a whack job alleging "the machine" behind his opponent, pulling the strings.
Just goes to show you that many times the winner isn't the best man or woman. Cheesebro is a huge waist of air. A carbon foot print of slime. Polly was clearly a class act. Eureka looses. Tera is as lacking in quailifications as Pat Higgins. We can only hope she isn't as crazy. I'll give Obama a chance but no one with any soul can dis on John McCain. Bush,OK but not McCain. What would really be nice is for you zelots to get off the Dem/Rep crap.
Maybe we should go back to the late 1700's and be democratic republicians? I.E. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
Reply to 10:03. You are correct "the winner isn't [always] the best man or woman".
But all the winners you are picking on are class acts. So were in many cases the losers. Saying nasty things about knowledgeable and caring people like Wes and Tera is just plane tacky and reeks of sour grapes. Linda and Polly are both good people as well, and no matter who won we were going to get decent representation.
While John McCain's supporters did not come off too well, McCain in his concession speech set the tone we should all strive for. The election is over and it is time to pull together to try to make improvements in our community, our county, our state, our country, and our world.
10:03am-Well said.
When 10:03 p.m. was talking about a "carbon footprint of slime" I think he was talking about himself.
