Most of the time I channel surf the radio, but when I listen to a CD it usually is harder music. I ask people what they currently have ready to play in their car to measure their mood or see what genre of music they hold close to heart. Oh yes, right now I have
The White Stripes - Icky Thump loudly in my stereo. And you?
Harder ? Anyway, if I want to listen to something harder, i go with Tool, or if I want something out there, I go with A Perfect Circle.
ReplyDeleteAwhile back I found a CD in the roadway. I picked it up and tossed it in my car. It's Dr. Dre's "2001."
ReplyDeleteIt's revolting, repugnant, nasty stuff. But it grows on you.
The Hi-Lo's. (I'm not kidding), Also Dave Matthews.
ReplyDeleteMichael Franti latest, Joni Mitchell's new CD, Neil Young's "Living with War", the new Paul McCartney CD - -
ReplyDeleteI shop at The Works!
Satellite radio for me. Carol's stuff is too new and cutting edge.
ReplyDeleteFunny... someone just asked me this the other night. Right now, I have the soundtrack to Across the Universe in my car CD player (hopefully my sister doesn't see this, as it's her birthday present...haha).
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what you can find out about a person through their driving music selections.
I don't have a sound system in my vehicle, but it sounds like a lot of other people are listening to music which is strikingly similar:
ReplyDeleteIt has a slow beat (booooom, booooom, booooom). The bass makes all of the plastic parts on the owners' vehicles vibrate with a high-pictched buzzing.
Don't forget the biggest requirement for the "booooom, booooom, booooom" music, CPR... a proper sound system must be able to set off car alarms as the vehicle moves up neighborhood streets. Specifically my landlord's work truck. I looooove waking up to that thing in the middle of the night. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the Evita soundtrack. That and Earth Crisis. But I don't drive.
ReplyDeleteWhat!!!!! No Rush Limbaugh???????
ReplyDeleteAllan Sherman: My Son, The Folksinger.
ReplyDeleteGreatest Hits of Nat King Cole.
Pioneers of Bluegrass.
Always played loud enough to hear every word, and low enough for me to hear my own voice singing along.
I admit I listen to 1340 am, Sports Talk. When that is not working I will also listen to Fountains of Wayne. Velvet Revolver is good too.
ReplyDeletevillage people, 'nuff said.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about changing my CD to Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, but changed my mind and went to KSLG 94.1 and heard a Smashing Pumpkins remake of Lanslide by Fleetwood Mac. I did not think it would work with Billy Corgan, but it actually does. One of my kids took (they call it borrow) my last Smashing Pumpkin CD.
ReplyDeleteI nearly "borrowed" my brother's Mott the Hoople Live CD while I was on vacation. I played nice, and bought my own copy.
ReplyDelete-boy
The Dixie Chicks have recorded Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide". It is beautiful. Love that song!

Electric Six

Coil
DM I enjoy the remixes you have a hard time finding.
Is it time for Black Mass again on KHSU?
boy: I am a Mott the Hoople fan from the early 70's! Sparks, Roxy Music, Television, Alex Harvey Band, Iggy Pop, Mink Deville, Tommy Bolin, Nectar and many more.....
ReplyDeleteanon.r.mous-"tainted" stuff. Interesting. Kind of Dark though. Wouldn't you say so?
ReplyDeleteKid Koala dark? You jest. Three out of six maybe?
ReplyDeleteI mean 3 out of 7, I can count, and even then DM isn't that dark, only Coil and the NIN video might be classes as dark.
ReplyDeleteFunny... someone just asked me this the other night.
ReplyDeleteFunny... me too!
Right Now in my CD Player?
Roy Clark Live at Billy Bob's Texas.
Recorded about 1990. You may not have liked him on Hee Haw, but the man can play guitar.
Mostly a Branson, Missouri style show with his hits interspersed with instrumentals of foreign origin. Like Malaguena, El Chumbanchero, Moscow Nights and others.
Features banjo extraordinaire Jimmy Henley.
Sorry, but Country & Western kicks all other forms of music's collective ass. Except for maybe Euro-Trance and Tuvan Throat Singing.
Satellite radio for me too. No CDs. Haven't listened to antiquated, advertising-dominated airwaves radio for years. Totally commercial free for $13 per month. I get all the NPR programming I want that KHSU doesn't provide. Siriusly happy with satellite.
ReplyDeleteGotta love corporate satellite radio.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking just yesterday how quickly we forget the True Greats of popular music.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't anybody play "Hey, Macarena" anymore?
Hey Richard, I am about to finish a blog story about my brother buying me a Mott the Hoople Cd a few years back, and that was when I became a fan. I hope you check it out. I will post it soon.

Music on satellite radio is commercial free. How is that corporate?
ReplyDeleteThe Macarena will always be,
ReplyDeleteIt will never die.
It was meant to be that way,
thought I don't know why.
The Macarena will always be.
It'll go down in History!
