Thing is, Rich, it's cheaper and EASIER (I'll emphasize "easier"), to hire people from out of country. Or to put a business in another country.
You know this yourself. That's why you work so much overtime. You're an expensive guy for your company. So much so, it's not worth it for the company to hire some extra help.
Only thing worse than Clinton was Bush. The only thing worse than Bush will be Clinton again.
So is it the consumer or the investor. Stop blaming everybody else.
Speaking of Hershey. Correct me if I am wrong. But didnt they want to open a factory out by Arcata Redwood co, In the 70s ?

Rick, Yes Hershey's wanted to build a factory here in good old Humboldt County.

From what I understand, Hersheys wanted to build a factory on the Samoa Peninsula in the 1950's, at the site where the pulp mills were eventually built. So instead of smelling chocolate when I was a child, I got to smell those lovely pulp mills, which were most armoatic in the 1960's.
I've heard the Hershey story told so often (without verification) that I am sure it is an Urban Legend.
I guess I should mention that the first time I heard the Hershey story was in 1967.
Missed this myself. As one of the few people that have been out to one of the many plants in that state, that's going to really crush that area completely. They have so many cute farmhouses and brick buildings out there, and also the convention center and everything else.
NAFTA shafts another job, but damn, if they are going to be cutting costs on those candy bars!
Also, here is another thing, those candy bars are all going to be hauled into the county on Mexican trucks, so it's a double screw, the factory workers lose the jobs, and the drivers lose the freight.
