I had a chance to watch my buddy Doug's son play his last game with the Eureka High JV's on Saturday. Eureka ended 8-3 on the year after sweeping Arcata in a twinbill. Cody went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a couple of walks. 16 year old Cody had an on base percentage of .657 and batted .520 with 10 RBI's. He might be moving up to the varsity team before the end of their season.
On Friday night I watched the Tiger's and Logger's match up in one the best High School baseball games I have seen. AHS prevailed 7-6 in 10 innings! It was breezy and temps dipped in the mid 40's, but still there were a couple of hundred people in the stands to watch at the Arcata Ball Park. Mitch Provolt was on the hill for Arcata and Justin Hatch for Eureka. Hatch was in a groove early, but then started to get hit pretty good by Arcata. In freezing weather he threw well over 100 pitches and gave up 12 hits and 6 runs. I personally thought he threw too many curve balls, but it was a gutsy outing. Some college needs to take a close look at this kid. Provolt pitched well and took a lead going into the 6th inning. Danny Bednar and Ryan Thompson got roughed up a little in relief, but kept the game close. Marcus Walker came in and waded his way through 4 innings of shutout relief and helped his own cause by collected 2 clutch hits. Conor Byrne played a good shortstop and Andrew Nelson might be the best outfielder around. Alex Cunha hit the ball well and threw out a few runners from behind the plate. Eureka High coach Eric Giacone made 4 appearances on the field to argue calls with the field ump, and you know what, he probably had good complaints. The critical calls really hurt Eureka. But it was a great game to watch.
Hey Richard i remember Cody's dad from softball.Did they move him up to the varsity.Sounds like they could use him.
ReplyDeleteThey decided to not move up Cody. They could have used him as a pinch hitter.
ReplyDelete.520 batting average.657 on base percentage. Not good enough? What do they want?Hell, You never hit that good in softball.
ReplyDeleteHe's one hell of a cutie
ReplyDeleteI agree, he's REALLY cute!
ReplyDeleteCody cute? C'mon he's a baseball player! He is supposed to be intimidating! Macho! Suave! C'mon EHS coaches! Move him up! (Is any of your players hitting .500?) Let him pinch hit!
ReplyDeleteCody was told at the start of the season that he would be moved up at the end of the j.v. season. The varsity coach went back on his word and didn't even inform Cody or his dad,he had the j.v. coach do it.
ReplyDeleteToo bad: Cody did his end. He hit and fielded well. Eric: Put him on the roster. He hit more than enough to justify. I am public.
ReplyDeleteRichard his dad should have sent him to St Bernards at least they have class there. After watching the horrible sportsmanship from Eureka high's basketball team this year and the coach doing absolutely nothing about it i wouldn't want my kid playing there anyway.Baseball coach goes back on his promise. No class!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of baseball players in the years that i coached there's only been one other player that had the quick wrists like CODY THAT WAS GARRET ANDERSON. The head coaches need to give Cody a chance, he's a player that could help in the future. Come on Eric give the kid a chance. He's worked hard to improve his range and get in better shape he deserves a chance.
ReplyDeleteCody is one heck of a good kid EHS baseball should give the kid a chance.
ReplyDeleteIf a coach tells a player he's going to bring him up after the J.V.season he should keep his word, or be man enough to tell the kid to his face,NOT HAVE THE J.V. COACH TELL HIM!!!
ReplyDeleteI know I am prejudice, having known Cody all his life, but batting over .500 should speak volumes. And I know the hard work in the gym Cody did to lose 70 lbs for this season. I am proud of his hard work and wish he had a chance to prove himself at the varsity level. Oh yes, Garrett Anderson had/has some quick wrists. I have known Garrett since he was very young. In basketball he used to do these weird unorthodox spins off the glass that I have never seen anybody do before or after. Garrett, Chris Ambrosini, Dan Johnson, Scott Radford, Arnot, Brown....the Myrtletown boys of the late 70's early 80's. Little Brats!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I would like to say terrific blog! I had a
ReplyDeletequick question in which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I have had a hard time clearing my mind in
getting my ideas out there. I do take pleasure in writing but it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or hints? Cheers!
