Went to watch Cody Weatherbee play for the Eureka JV baseball team against Arcata. The Redwood field in Cutten was in good shape considering the weather. Rex Bohn said it took about $300 to get it playable. Kudos to the volunteers. I would guess the Temp around 50 and wind chill at 45. Brrr. There was a great crowd and they were treated to a solid, clean performance by both teams. The final score was 6-6 in 6 innings. The game was called rightly by umpire Dave Rhodes in the top of the 7th due to darkness.
One issue I have with high school baseball: They should have a pitch count for these kids! The Arcata pitcher had to be well over 100 pitches in his stint. No High school pitcher should be allowed to go over this limit. Professional pitchers and college hurlers are not allowed or are monitored to stay under this limit. I feel high school should do the same. And Babe Ruth too!

Sliding in the mud...
It feels like spring.
Modern day pitchers are pussies. Check out the stats from the
1960's when pitchers used to pitch on 3 days rest and worked over 300 innings in a year. Didn't seem to bother them. Guys like Gibson, Spahn and Marichal pitched 20 to 30complete games each year. How about the 18 inning game between Spahn and Marichal when Alvin Dark asked Marichal if he wanted to come out of the game after 9 innings and the score was tied 0 to 0. Marichal told Dark that if Spahn, who was 40 years old at the time, wasn't coming out of the game then he sure as heck wasn't either. Both pitchers pitched the entire 18 innings, throwing over 200 pitches each. Willie Mays won the game in the 18th with a solo home run. Those guys were studs.
Actually, it was only a 16 inning game. Marichal threw 227 pitches and Spahn 201.
Spahn was 42 years old, Marichal 25.
If they throw fastballs like Richard then they won't hurt their arms at all.
5:37pm-I make the same claim about myself. I could throw 200 pitches today, at a very slow pace.
Hey! If you don't have any muscles to pull, you can get away alot.
