Del Norte scored the winning basket with 1.5 seconds left in regulation to lift the Warriors to a hard fought 35-33 victory on the Tiger court. The Arcata 6th man brigade booed the visitors when they took the court and booed the Warrior cheerleaders when they did flips at timeouts. But the Del Norte fans had the last dig at the end of the game, chanting "Just Like Football!" after the big shot gave them the lead. Ouch! It was just a great Basketball game in a loud rowdy gym. The Niclai tournament this year might be one of the most competitive ever!
Booing is so.....NASCAR. You can always tell class.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny!
ReplyDeleteI like it because it was innocent enough. I do not know if you keep up on college athletics as much Richard, but those Division 1A schools have some pretty mean fans. The fans at Boston College were hammered in the press for chanting some very mean things when Navy came to town foe a football game:
Reported that they chanted "F#CK NAVY!"
Class-Less! I mean, anybody else but Navy and Army. Those kids on those squads were not even recruited by many of the more prominent programs, and they will almost certainly not go pro in the NFL, because they will be serving in the armed forces after they graduate.
So, reading your story reminds me that taunts can be funny and clean still.

Boy: It was innocent last night, but the 6th man crowd for Arcata got ugly against Piner in the championship of the AIBT. Some girls faced off at halfcourt after the game, and when the Piner girls (Just fans and Piner Girl B Ball players mind you) were leaving, one of the Arcata booster threw a water bottle at them while the others were posturing.
ReplyDeleteI have witnessed the 6th man group for years now (both my sons went to Arcata one played hoops.) and this years group is very loud and rowdy, and maybe more aggressive than in past years.
Who is this Fab FIVE group you speak of?
ReplyDelete10:49-I heard ya! Opps is all I can say!
ReplyDeleteI was referring to the Del Norte Fans, Richard, I got the sense from your story that the home crowd got a little out of hand.

Del Norte rules in sports these days. Why? Maybe big tough prison guards have big tough kids.
