More notes of note from Robin.

My wife Robin is the queen of notes. Most of them are just reminders of household activities needing addressed and some just general life observations. Now that the boys are at school in Sacramento, they are generally addressed to me. Here is one worth sharing:

“Life wasn’t meant to be a journey to the grave with the goal of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather a race to the finish line, used up, totally fulfilled, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow! What a ride!”

With all due respect, that note seems a little contradictory. I mean, how can you feel totally fulfilled if you're used up?

I think it's possible to have a great ride without using yourself up. In fact, the better you take care of yourself, the better the ride is.

Perhaps Life is actually too complex, sacred, in short, just too much, to be summarized in a sentence or two. Wait! Did I just do it?

I believe you did, thou synopsizing knave!

  4. I guess I read more into this. Instead of just sitting idle and not taking chances you can finish the race to the grave unscathed. But if you are active and take some shots or risks and being active in life you will be more self-fulfilled or satisfied. Hey, I am but a mill-worker. What would I know.

Well Richard, judging from your blog as a whole, if you're a typical mill-worker then it appears mill-workers know a lot more about social and political reality than most journalists, lawyers, politicians and other professional con artists.

    anonymous 12:38, I second that...

And life is a journey that takes you places you want to go, don't want to go, and places you didn't know you were going to..

My philosophy is to let life come to you, enjoy what you see and do, and then get ready for the next ride for life is so grand not knowing what is next around the corner. In other words---this is what makes who you are inside and out---your being...

Hey the other Richard-- enjoy the ride!!!

That's pretty positive. Wish I could be like that. In my life, not knowing what's around the next corner has always made me uneasy. I've always felt sort of like I'm driving a VW bug up a one-lane dirt road with a fully-loaded logging truck chuggin' 'round the next corner. Or maybe the next. Guess I need to lighten up a bit. Or maybe stay alert so I can jump off the road in time.

Speaking of political realities, is that you in the photo of Ward 2 appointment committee members, other Richard? Congratulations! Who would you like to see appointed?

  9. 1:22pm-I do not even know who all the candidates are yet. The deadline to file is this Thursday at 5pm at the Eureka City Hall. I am just 1 out of 8 selection members. We will be meeting Friday morning to agree on protocol. This process to narrow the field for a mayor has never been tested. Should be interesting.

Yes. Much better that you eight and the Council and Mayor decide who will represent Ward Two than the residents of Ward Two themselves.

  11. 7:25pm-Kind of the same irony that all 4 other Wards vote for Ward 2 candidates in an election also.

  12. 9:07am-That is a good quote that actually is tinged with more reality and looks into the narcissist beings humans generally are.

  13. I have been guilty at times for being narcissistic.
