At Work for the Holidays. Merry X-mas at Evergreen!
I have been working the 7am to 7pm shift for the last few days and will be at Evergreen this Christmas for a 12 hour shift. When I got home my oldest son Jacob was here from Sacramento. I had a message from my youngest son Jordan to call him about a "funny" noise his car was making. I bought him a 2006 Dodge Neon with all the bells and whistles last year so he would have dependable transportation while he goes to school in Sac-Town. Sure enough, a few months later he was ran into on an overpass and the car was totaled. I had traded in my Corvette as part of the down on the car, and needless to say, it was a wash. I looked at buying another new car, but just could not justify it financially. So I paid cash for a used Ford Escort much to Jordan's chagrin. It had been a good car until this. He is driving it home tomorrow from Sacramento so I can check it out. Problem is, I am working until 7pm. I may have to trade him cars (Robin's PT Cruiser) until I figure out what the "funny" noise is. But at least both boys will be home on X-Mas day! They will all be at the In-Laws for dinner while I help make the Pulp. But we will get together later. So it will all be good!
hey the other Richard, I had so much fun in the Ford, what do you think Shane?---we were something...
ReplyDeleteMerry X Mas Richard, thanks for the fun this year, you were the best....?
Dodge Neon. Lots of problems with head gaskets, engine problems. I used to own one; dumped it so I wouldn't get nickel and dimed to death. Ford Escort. My sister used to have one . . . it blew up. You know what they say about Fords - fix or repair daily OR found on the road dead. I now own two Toyotas. The oldest is a 1992 pickup with 193,000 miles and still runs like a top. Both are great automobiles.
ReplyDelete1998 Mercury Tracer here with around 208,000 miles. Still on the road strong. Just wouldn't take it out of town anymore.
ReplyDeletewhile I help make the Pulp.
ReplyDeleteSoooo.... you're one of the people who put the reek in Eureeka!
That mill must pay generous wages if you could own a Corvette.
Hey Dude
ReplyDeleteYou work too hard.
Forget about the cars...you've got a family to appreciate.
Merry Christmas and all the best from us.
Get some rest.

Some people remove those pesky trees that block people's view.
ReplyDeleteSome people put particulate matter into the air so it can't be taken for granted, the way it often is when it is left undeveloped and invisible.
Thus, each of us contributes in our small way to the good of All.

Sorry about the doubling. Slow response suckered me into punching the "Login and Publish" button twice.
ReplyDeleteRichard - how was working on The Committee?
ReplyDelete"Some people remove those pesky trees that block people's view."
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I know I prefer clear views of tree stumps to the horizon instead of all those damn trees that just get in the way of progress.
"Some people put particulate matter into the air so it can't be taken for granted, the way it often is when it is left undeveloped and invisible."
Yes, I am also grateful to those philanthropists who stink up the air and make my lungs contricted, for how else would I know the value of undeveloped air? Besides, invisible air is so old-fashioned.
7:44pm-Let me qoute Marv Thornberry, "I don't know why they invited me to do this....... " Actually the committee worked great together, and I was honored by Mayor Bass for the chance to participate in this progressive process.
ReplyDeleteIs it true you supported Bass in the election over La Vallee? If so, why? Does Bass the Republican support unions?
ReplyDeleteRichard, do you live in the city limits?
ReplyDelete3:09am-Virginia had union backing and was endorsed by the Operating Engineers local 3. Don't forget, Bonnie Neely the Republican also has support of local labor. Virginia is an actual working class servant of Eureka. She grew up down the street from me in Myrtletown and had my full support against Peter LaVallee. Peter was not the leader that is needed to move Eureka forward. We need economic growth and I saw Peter as a threat to progress and the creation of living wage/union jobs that will be created if we remove negative barriers. I am pro-worker.
ReplyDelete8:40am-I own property/work/do business in Eureka. I reside in Samoa. Remember that Eureka owns plenty of property on the Peninsula so I do have ties to the city. I am on the board of directors for the Samoa Peninsula Fire District who protect Eureka's interest here on the Peninsula. Virginia picked me because of my recent candidacy for the 4th District Supervisor where I canvassed much of the City of Eureka, which is in fact, in the 4th District. So I had a pulse of how most Eurekan’s felt about what is going on politically. I was 1of 7 on the selection committee. It will be Virginia's job to pick her candidate that will be consensual. The committee just was to narrow the field. No conspiracy if that is where you were going with this.
ReplyDeleteVirginia is an actual working class servant of Eureka.
ReplyDeleteNo, Virginia is a servant of Rob Arkley. That's why she voted with lap-dog-Leonard, Jones and Wolford to scrap the master plan for the Balloon Tract in 2004.
She picked you because you supported her campaign.
I just asked because I think that the committee should be made up of Eureka residents. It's not that I don't think you're qualified, it's just that you don't live within the city limits so I think you shouldn't be involved in picking Virginia's successor.
ReplyDelete5:07pm-Fair enough. It was Virginia's process. And she had the final say so who was her candidate.
ReplyDeleteWe will hold it against her then, not against you.
