Arts Alive! 10/7/06
The politicians had a great row at the Gazebo tonight! Bonnie Neely was next to Ron Kuhnel who was next to Jeff Leonard who was next to Virginia Bass who was hoofing it into the crowd. Nancy Flemming was stationed in her headquarters with a great spread of food and drink. Mike Jones was mingling with his wonderful wife Susie. No Peter. No Nan. What gives? Paul and Joan Gallegos were the first ones Robin and I ran into. They were childless and I hope they had a good night on the town. He was worried on how I felt post election wise on my campaign. Paul has always done that to me. Never said any thing about his personal concerns. He really wanted to talk about my place in life. I know he pisses so many people in Humboldt County off in so many levels. I have had nothing but positve experiences with Paul and Joan. OK Rose, have a field day with how much he is using me. But why is he nice to me? What has he to gain or me? Nothing!
Peter was doind a sister city thing tonight. Nice comments on Arts Alive. I agree.
ReplyDeleteWhen did it become a requirement for public officials or political candidates to attend Arts Alive?
ReplyDeleteGee, let's see. One of the main entertainment events each month that cost nothing. A way for all levels of society to mingle without class divisions. A melting pot of viewpoints. A chance to meet the politicians that have an impact on all of us one on one. And by the way, the sister city excuse shows why Peter is toast. Spending his time with people from outside the community, not those within.
ReplyDeleteWhen did it become a requirement for public officials or political candidates to attend Arts Alive?
ReplyDeleteIt's a question of prudence.
And whatever else you have to say about them, the Gallegos family is gracious and kind to the people they encounter. It's always been my experience as well.
Nan was there mingling around. She also made a few stops near Larry Glass's table. But she mostly walked around and talked to people.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to stick up for PG on this one Eric, nothing negative was said! I guess it's just a natural response to you.
ReplyDeleteI was did not get there until after 7pm. I had to work from 7am to 7pm. I missed Nan and Larry. I was checking out the art. (I love/hate-confuse/agree-understand/can't comprehend-Jeff Jordan's art. Machado's is really consistent but too much on the same theme. Art is subjective though. I may purchase a Jordan piece though.) I heard Larry was available. My bad for not saying that earlier. My wife scored a Nancy Flemming piece. Nancy has been really supportive of my wife' health issues and has been in contact with her.
ReplyDeleteRichard,am I seeing things or are Virginia's signs non-union made?

ReplyDeleteI was simply confirming Mark's assessment with my own. Does every comment have to amount to a disagreement?
mresquan: If you see a flyer or envelope for Virginia, they are all union made with the bug. Her signs were made before she had any labor endorsment or was invited to interview for such. Many of our local unions tend to endorse without even asking the candidates to interview. Most did not bother to interview me a union brother and a union organizer! Some leaders will not even ask their membership! Pretty sad locally.

9:31 PM
Putting together a long-term grassroots alliance of labor activists as an alternative to the ossified clc would be a good use of time especially if theyre willing to break out of the demockerly limited loco mold.
9:31,thanks for the heads up.I haven't seen any of her stuff yet.A friend told me he thought her signs were made non-union.The unions did their endorsing a while back, before she had any signs out.Her vision of the balloon tract is providing low wage jobs, not improving living conditions. Her track record doesn't reflect anything a union would support.I would imagine that the workers at OH's are treated well,as I haven't heard otherwise yet.Would she stand in the way of them forming a union?I predict yes.
ReplyDeleteEric: Don't take it personal. It is just Paul brings out emotions on both sides of the political spectrum. I am not a Paul apologist in any way. I just appreciate the humanistic side of Joan and Paul's peripheral journey through everyday life in Humboldt County and how they interconnect to others. Worth has had the same touch to many in the county. I actually got along with Terry Farmer also. Damn! Am I a lawyer groupie? My deceased father was a defense attorney and had a law office in San Jose. Maybe I just miss him.
ReplyDeleteJust for the record and let me toot my own horn here: My wife and I were over in Redding last week and no one had union made signs. After I made it an issue here locally in the primaries, almost every sign from the labor side has the union bug! So kudos to those candidates. And let me acknowledge once again and apoligize to Larry Glass and his campaign!
ReplyDeletemresquan: I am not completely up on all the history, but OH Bass had the union bug on his past political signs and his Restuarant was in fact a "Union Approved" shop for years. LaVallee has no union history here. OH's has plenty in my 30 years of union activity. One of my first union shop stewards dinners was held right there in the 80's. Our local has been frequenting this establishment for over 40 years! Virginia and her staff has been respecful amd honoring of working union class workers from the peninsula for nearly 50 years! What has Peter done? Nothing for working class like myself. Nor Bonnie Neely. Nothing.
ReplyDeleteGood to know Richard, thanks for the heads up as well.I've never heard anything bad about employment there. Some local groups do meet there on occasion.Hopefully they treat them well and not just for spending money at the restaurant. But if she's so seemingly pro-labor why is she backing this labor debacle known as the Marina Center, which at this point provides no true living wage jobs?Richard, please let it all out on your thoughts about Home Depot and there labor practices.
ReplyDeleteRichard praising O.H. Bass as a pro-union guy? Wow. What a crock. "Not up on all the history" is a major understatement, Richard.
ReplyDeleteThe Marina Center project has 6 full time Operating Engineers local 3 members working on feasibilty projects for the base level as of today. Between workers and apprentices the total project may have upward of 150 union workers involved. Home Depot has promised a base wage wage of over $12 an hour. Home Depot worker rights practices have been very poor for the most part. Odds of organizing them are probably better than organizing Pierson's. Man, let me tell you, I have spent thousands at Pierson's in the last few years. If I knew Bill was going to spend it all on left wing candidates, maybe I would have stepped up to the trough during the primaries!
ReplyDelete10:55 anonymous wiener person. What do you have to bring to the table?
ReplyDeleteTypical Humboldt County. Just because a working person is running for office there are some (lowlifes) that attach everythingthat person does.
ReplyDeleteOH's is a great restaurant. A local landmark. This is true when OH Bass ran it and it is true now. They servea a good product, have reasonable prices and the staff is just fine if you are a lone individual or a banquet.
Try something new in local politics, like sticking to real issues.
I've got plenty but I choose not to waste it on politics or union labor issues. You still didn't answer my question. Why don't you spend some of those union wages you make on a dictionary?
ReplyDelete8:28 AM, you are so clever ! So superior ! How do you deal with being such a perfect human being, it must be difficult?
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you spend some of those union wages you make on a dictionary?
ReplyDeleteHuh? I don't get it. How is this relevent to any of the topics?

ReplyDeleteIt's so sad when discussion turns to filth. A true lack of class.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the Bass family. They have done much for Eureka throughout the years.

ReplyDeleteWhat "fact"??????
ReplyDeleteName a name. Just because YOU say its so, doesnt make it, in fact, so. I'd still LOVE to know for a fact who ran the Kerrigan hit piece when he and Bohn were running. Rex swears it wasnt him, and I believe it...How is it that there was a response to the hit piece almost before it ran??
11:02 anonymous wiener person who told me to F myself and called me a pr***. You go out of your way to navigate my blog, don't identify yourself and then spew hate? Get some help will ya?
ReplyDeleteAnswer on the hit piece: Put on the air by Salzmann and the immediate (if not sooner) response was ready cause duh-he knew it was comin'. Is there a guide dog available for anyone who doesn't see this clearly?
ReplyDeleteAttack your own candidate so no one else will think of doing it and thus look as though piling it on. Works everytime! Cheap play, works everytime...expect something equal or better in the last 2-3 weeks before the polls open.
And there will be no need to wonder who did it cause we already know.
Richard we hope you run again-how about taking on Patty Berg next time?
ReplyDelete6:16,Patty will be termed out. He'll have to take on Chesbro for that seat. That's what Wes's gunning for next.
ReplyDeleteI may just be challenging Wes Chesbro for the 1st Assembly District seat in 2008. I have talked to a few about cost feasibilty. It is time to bring a working class into the position again. Like Virginia Strom-Martin was. I helped her on her campaign and thought she did a fine job. Stay tuned.

You, Mr. Blog Owner, are the one telling lies about the "pro-union" O.H. Bass. You are the one who started the name-calling. Then I guess I hurt your feelings. Poor boy! Now I guess you will remove my comment. Who cares?
didnt see any "lies" from softball, dude, just blind hatred from the likes of you...getting worried???
ReplyDeleteI know Virginia personally, have since our days at HSU and I do KNOW that she would not stoop the the level that you have suggested.
9:00pm What lies are you talking about concerning OH Bass? I am really confused on your agenda. We have been talking about working class and union class, which are both closely the same, just on different levels. I said anyone making personal comments should identify themselves or they were a "Wieners". I try to keep my blog light and on task. Do I know you personally? If I do, you know I am accessable and open. Give me a call and we can exchange proper dialouge.
ReplyDeleteHit and Run types aren't going to call you with Proper Dialogue Richard. You are doing just fine-and BTW I'd vote for you B4 Chesbro so you have one vote!
ReplyDeleteI think talking about union made signs and stuff is a proper topic and complaining that your union dues are being spent without consulting you-just fine to complain. Keep it up.
1:00pm I realize that people will spew sometimes. I just wish I knew who they were. I have talked to others about laying some ground work to challenge Wes Chesbro in 2008. I do not like his politics. And yes, I have been a past financial supporter and all. Time for a fresh change in Northern California. It's about bringing work into the area!
ReplyDeleteRichard,
ReplyDeleteHow about doing a write in campaign for this election against Patty?Seriously,it would a lot of noise. If you have your signs from your campaign, and could reuse them it would be great. The" Write In Richard" Campaign has a nice ring to it.I'll check with the elections department regarding the rules behind it,signatures needed to get on the ballot, and the timeline to turn them in.I don't think it's too late yet.You certainly have more confidence than this Tom Reed fellow and that other no-show for a debate opponent. You certainly are getting a write in vote from me,if it counts or not.
Richard has until the 24th Oct. count me in to run against Patty! Supervisor race a done deal with the old girls having their bases sewn up already-BUT Patty is a different story and no one actually poised to pounch there. We'll help you Richard!!!!
ReplyDeleteLet us know where to sign up. Will identify myself at that time.
scared me there for a second. I thought you were talking about the "other" Richard.
ReplyDeleteYou could be right though-the "other" Richard hasn't done a lot for Nancy Fleming maybe he has some signatures up his sleeve. For himself. Good luck :>
ReplyDeleteGood. Luck.
ReplyDeleteRichard, Would you explain your original intentions in posting this message (the one pasted below)?

11:01 PM
4:38pm Taking offense to someone attacking the author anonymously.
ReplyDeleteRichard Marks: Seriously, I am trying to figure out what you meant when you wrote the following:
ReplyDelete"anonymous wiener person. What do you have to bring to the table?"
Was it an attempt at humor? An attempt to insult me?
I took it as an insult. Notice that your previous comments about anonymous posters being "weiners" was posted in a different section of your blog. I had not seen it when I found myself being described as an "anonymous weiner person" for the apparent infraction of expressing an opinion that differed from yours.
I hope you will respond. Maybe we can get some clarity of understanding here after all.
11:35am-I am insulting an anonymous poster: If you want serious dialouge from me, show me the respect to post identifying yourself. I have opened myself to public scrutiny, I just ask for the same courtesy. You can e-mail me identifying yourself if you have a question that you want answered anonymously. I am not trying to offend you. That was not my intent.
