Bad driver is us. Me that is.

I had to miss a softball playoff game in Arcata last night because I had to go to a traffic violator class to keep a point off my driving record and keep my good driver standing on my insurance. I got my ticket trying to hurry from a softball tournament in Red Bluff to a game I had in Blue Lake. I was ticketed abut 10 miles east of Weaverville for 65 in a 55. 5 people out of the 13 in class received their tickets near Weaverville! The instructor said each class he does has an average of around 3 from that area. The last ticket I received was while I was working for the union. I was on my way to Heyburn Idaho to organize a Boise Cascade plant there. I was in my Mustang going a safe speed, I thought, in the middle of the desert near Elko Nevada on Highway 80. I forgot what I was wrote up for, but I think I was doing well over 80 in a 70 MPH zone. But in the Mustang you couldn't hardly tell. I sold that good stead and now drive a Mercury Tracer. Less prone to go that fast.

Sorry Richard ... this is more of an "even playing field" as opposed to a "got me" issue. That's why I bought a radar detector to even the playing field. After all, law enforcement has these sophisticated devices that can measure your speed while you approach them head on. Is that fair?

    They're corking their bats, man.

I paid $250 for one at Brookstone, but CostCo now has one for $99. As long as you're not opposed to shopping at a big box, go for it. David Cobb does!!!!

  5. Oh, and I had a radar detector, but one of my sons was using it! Damn the siblings! I did not pay much attention that I had a quad muscle until tonight. Tweaked it, but it is all right so far. Chuck and I were a combined 2-2 and two walks. And we won tonight! The Tomaso wood bat team is a collective 25-7 for the year! Not too shabby!

attention to all. the beer league tournament is a invitational , get it.think about that.and then make your assinine comments we have not won in three years,it is not about certain players and i resent you making those comments about me i am a fair person it is about not bringing a team in that wins tournaments out of town , a tourney team, and that is it.also why would higher talent players want to play in lesser talent tournament.for those who read this i have nothing against any of these playing, zero. just try every yearto keep it semi even ,for the weeker teams and that is it. also there has never been a roster needed in this venue. so please lets notlet this get out of hand. or then it becomes no fun

  10. Just for the record. Rhodes Warriors are the two time defending Champions of the Beer League Championships. The last three tournaments have been very evenly contested and I hope this years stays the same where we all have a chance! It is going to be great. Card game and sleep over at Schmitty's!

by the way it has nothing to do with low talent or high talent teams, we go because it's fun, to drink beer and play softball. we also like to play with players that are our friends, and play with all the time.. it's all about having a good time and geting drunk. So good luck to All Teams..

  13. Kris: Joey was 3-4 with 3 jacks. He hit a shot at the fence his other at bat that Jesse Hawkins (the young one) made a diving stab that stole what would have been a double.

i did see that catch it was a great one, that daniel nord from the brew crew hit 3 hr's aginst us earlier in the season, they were one after another 3 in a row and pop out last at bat, they r both very good power hiters,
On our team justin moore has 4 hr's and we got 4 others tied with one, the long ball is not murphys game, i guess, just solid defence and a lot of base hits. Their is about 6or 7 people in the league that has more homers than our whole team. So i ask the question what makes a great hiter, power, or concinnity, (hope speling is corect)??? my guess is proably a little of both, but i think people remember people mostly by Clutch hiting, coming thru when your team needs you most...
PS I always have fun no matter how much it get's out of hand.LOL

FOR SOME TIMES RICH, FOR OTHER NOT LET ME DO THE HOMEWORK ON THE TOURNEY, LIKE I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR 15 YEARS NOW,

  16. Sorry Chuck:
It is not place to tell you or anyone else how to run a tournament. The Beer League Championship has a long time good reputation and I hope to participate for many years to come. I didn't know I made any comments negative to that affect. I appreciate anyone who puts the time and effort into holding a tournament. It can be thankless and a hassle.

who do you think is the top 5 hiters in humboldt, what about best hiter by age,
got to do my "homework" for that one. LOL

  18. 50+ Barry Oliver overall Barry Scarpillino for power. 40+ Bob Rossig (I can hear the boo birds but I have witnedded enough through the years.) Power and average Matt Socha. 30+ Scott Eskra, Jeremy Rassmussen, Chris Pence, Jeff Frizzell many other goodies. 20+ Dan Nord, John McGinnis, Hana Borden for hits and power. Have to think about that.

    it's a tough one.
Socha has to be on it, chris pence is one of the best clutch, joey S. is a great power hiter, that dave from arcata garbage, has good power
Scott eskra has to be on it. i think i would put erik iken, over jeremy same power erik gets more base hits tho. Mcginis needs to learn to control his temp. very easy to get in his head, j-mo and bj always hit the ball hard, t-bone has really work on his basehits not just power anymore, both dan browning and dan nord our both big power hiters. how does that jerry miller hit in seniors, heard he was prety good 2.

Tough call between Jeremy and Eichen(Thats how it's spelled guys!)Eichen is probably a little more consistent, but when Jeremy gets hot watch out. I have not played with or against Socha enough to compare him to those two. Good call Rich with Barry Oiver definetly one of the best.

I almost forgot. What about Rodney Dickerson. He hit 3 home runs in wood bat tonight and supposedly had a fourth one robbed at the fence. He hit the longest ball I ever saw at the Arcata ballpark softball field. It went over the crabs dugout and on to the street by the bus stop. And that was way before double wall demarini's and Mikan Freaks.

Rodney hit three out with a wood bat? No way! That is three more than our whole team!
